EDITED

In the morning I wake up from a restless sleep, so of course I'm grouchy before my feet even hit the floor. I hurry and shower, then I dress in a cute grey tank top and short shorts I packed from my bag. I lace up some sneakers and blow dry my hair.

It's already about 11am and I head downstairs to get some coffee from the kitchen. I pause when I hear two heart beats in the living room not one.
Uncle Mason and Tyler were out running and wouldn't be back for a bit, I heard them leave when I woke up earlier.

I go to the kitchen and listen in to the two people talking in the living room while I make coffee.

My mother speaks first,

"So I understand John Gilbert has left town. Have they found the vampire that attacked him?"

Uncle Mason told me about the secret council here in Mystic falls, the one full of prestigious grown ups who think they know everything about everything when it comes to the supernatural world. But all they even know about is vampires.

"Well, the sheriff has asked me to take the lead on that and I promise you I will get to the bottom of it," The voice brings chills to my spine.

It's Damon.

Of course it is, fucking vampire, I think to myself and groan internally.

"Which brings me to my next subject. With Richard gone, I'll be acting as interim mayor until the elections and I'm going to need someone to spearhead out the council. I'd like that person to be you," My mother says.

She's got to be kidding me. He's a vampire and she doesn't even know it.
I rub my forehead in annoyance and continue listening even though I feel like I'm losing brain cells every time my mother opens her mouth.

Damon sighs in contentment,

"Whatever you need Carol. As a founding family member it's something that's very close to me, so I would be honored to help keep this town safe from vampires."

Mason and Tyler enter the house after exercising and stop by the front door. I hear my mother close the living room door and Damon pauses in whatever he was going to say next.

"Is it safe to talk?" He must not want to be overheard.

"It's my brother-in-law, Mason. He's still visiting. I just don't want him to hear us. He didn't want any part of the council when he lived here and I see no reason to bring him into it now," My mother says simply, I can practically see her face as it upturns into her normal bitchy expression.

I get bored with them now, my mother on my last nerves, and tune into Tyler and Mason's conversation instead. I sip my coffee happily.

Tyler sighs,

"What was that? Like seven?"

Uncle Mason chuckles,

"Six. I don't count the last one. You crawled it."

Tyler stops,

"What?"

Mason laughs at him,

"I think Grandma Lockwood actually passed you, in her walker."

Tyler sounds annoyed,

"Yeah, okay. Shoes off. Mud...my mom..."

Mason nods taking his shoes off as well,

"Yeah, yeah."

I grab my cup of coffee and walk back to the front entrance. Tyler sees me and smiles. I return the smile.

Mason smiles warmly at me and I stick my tongue out at him playfully.
