EDITED
Where could I begin? Perhaps with the fact that Klaus was dead, but now he is somehow alive again. Perfect.
Or no, maybe my starting point should be that Elena is now a newborn vampire. And since she died, Alaric is dead, for good.
Rebekah, Klaus's sister, drove her off a bridge. Turns out Elena fell earlier that day and had Damon's blood in her system from the doctor at the hospital who uses vampire blood to heal her patients. She is now an undead doppelgänger.
Everyone is safe. I honestly stayed out of the entire thing. I know that's wrong of me considering the Salvatores, the Gilberts, Caroline, my brother, and Bonnie, are all a part of my pack. But sometimes I have to run to clear my head of everything.
Oh wait, or maybe I should begin with the fact there is a raging vampire hunter in our home town, ready to kill us all....
**At the Salvatore Boarding house**
Sniffing once from Damon's bedroom I hurriedly get out of our bed, I sense him in the garage with Stefan. They've both been extremely tense with each other lately, and it bothered me. Now that Elena is a vampire she's chosen to be with Stefan, and they appeared to have worked out all their differences.
I asked Damon if anything happened between him and Elena in Denver and he denied it multiple times. And my heart and soul chose to believe him, he is my mate.
Tip toeing downstairs and outside onto the gravel driveway I make my way towards the garage.
I tune into their conversation. The vampire hunter has my brother's werewolf venom, and Damon is planning on killing the hunter himself. He's so stupid.
I creep closer to the garage door and I hear Stefan get up from the ground.
"I'll go with you Damon," Stefan offers.
"I don't want your help. I just want to kill this guy and get the hell out of town. Wasn't that the deal? Whoever Elena doesn't chose leaves?"
Stefan sighs in acknowledgement,
"That was before she turned. And what about Debria?" I hear the pity in Stefan's voice when my name is mentioned.
My heart already sinking in my chest, but I hold hope I am just misreading the entire conversation. Which sounds naive, but a girl can hope. I'm allowed.
"I stayed the last few days to help Elena adjust with being a vampire. If I take you punching me as the first clue, I'm not wanted here anymore," Damon sighs once himself before continuing to rip my heart out with his words,
"As for Debria, maybe she did find a mate in me. But she's never been in love before this. I grew to care for her and love her, I do love her. But Elena has held my heart long before the little Lockwood did."
Very slowly, I step into their line of sight. My expression is mad up of horror and betrayal.
Stefan spots me first, his green eyes wide, knowing I overheard everything.
Damon sees Stefan's eyes shift to me and he turns. I hear the breath whoosh out from his body as he realizes I overheard this entire gut wrenching conversation.
Tears well in my eyes and I clutch my abdomen to keep all the hurt from coming up. My inner wolf cowers and screams desperately inside of me.
"Damon? " My voice barely a whisper, but I know they can hear me,
"Is this true? You love Elena too?"
Damon's eyes seem to go blank for a moment before looking at me, and he nods once since he's been caught red handed,
"Yes."
I shake my head, fury boiling up inside of me now,
"No, I don't believe you."
"Believe me. I care for you Debria. I love you, I do. But there's something unwavering about this pull that I have for Elena as well," Damon sounds saddened to tell me this.
My inner spirit seems to fade slowly, and I fall to my knees as all this energy rushes from me.
I place my palms to the ground to hold myself up, and I breathe deeply through my mouth to stop myself from just turning into a wolf and bolting.
And yet again, I get to watch the only thing that made me truly happy, slowly slip from my grasp.
Then it absolutely hits me; this was never going to play into my favor. I slowly get up from the ground.
I look up at Damon as the feeling of him being my mate eases it's way out of my pained heart,
"How could you do this to me? Tell me you want me forever?"
Damon steps once towards me as if the answer is obvious,
"What did you expect Debria?"
That stumped me for a moment. What did I expect? Certainly not this, certainly not for him to stop loving me so soon.
Stefan rubs his forehead awkwardly, clearly being very uncomfortable to witness this entire thing. Pity for me fills in his gaze as he looks at me. I hate that.
Taking a deep breath, I let a tear fall from one eye as I open my mouth to speak,
"I used to dream of the day I would meet the one. I thought my dreams came true the day my wolf chose you. But I guess you're not the one, and I guess dreams don't come true." It sounded silly and immature but that's how I felt.
I turn away from both Damon and Stefan, I take a few steps in the direction of the woods, but I stop.
Facing Damon again, I narrow my eyes at him,
"Thanks to you, Damon Salvatore, you have broken my heart, and absolutely crushed my dreams."
Damon looks down at the ground when he speaks his last words to me,
"I was never the one for you."
"You are not deserving of my heart Damon. You have ripped me into pieces so small I don't know if I will ever have enough left of me to ever give another," I wipe another tear that falls down my cheek away, and start to walk away like I did a few moments before.
I want to escape everything. My friends, my family, my own heart.
So I did what I seem to do best these days.
I run.
