Kori POV

Math was always a pain in the ass. It's one of those things that you hate about life yet there's no escaping it. I certainly felt trapped staring at the piece of hieroglyphics before me. No matter how many times I squinted or chewed on the eraser of my pencil it still looked the same.

I threw my head onto my binder giving up. I was already on the second question so I deserved a break.

Tossing aside my homework I rolled onto my back which in turn made my bed creak underneath me. My phone buzzed for about the forth time in the past ten minutes, I already knew who it was and I was not intending on acknowledging them. Maybe my phone would magically end up at the bottom of a nearby lake and I would lose contact with everybody. I laughed at the thought of Nathaniel trying to call me unaware of my phone sinking to the bottom of a murky abyss.

Thinking of Nathaniel made me want to jump right after the device. He claimed me as his property always throwing an arm around my waist or shoulder even though I had rejected him countless times. He just wouldn't budge. Not to mention he was as clingy as a koala. He suffocated me. His little white ass paraded around like we were an item, he even had some people convinced we were a couple but only a dumbass would believe that.

My phone once again rattled on my nightstand almost mockingly. With a groan I shut the damn thing off. Why didn't I do that sooner?

I walked downstairs into the kitchen. Tonight I would be eating dinner alone but I didn't have a problem with that, I liked the quiet. It sounded bad but I like the isolation, being by myself was when I was most relaxed. Thankfully my mom had no problem leaving me every night going god knows where and taking my younger brother to my aunt's house. This house always looked better empty.

After rummaging through the fridge I decided on left over chinese. The microwaved beeped once my food was warmed up and I sat down in front of the couch ready to have a netflix marathon.

I was halfway done with my food when I heard what almost sounded like a car in the driveway. I scrunched my eyebrows at the door in confusion, I wasn't expecting anyone.

Please don't be a serial killer. I silently prayed to myself deciding to ignore the unknown sound from outside.

Three loud knocks made me jump from my seat immediately pausing the TV. If I pretend no one's home they'll go away. It's probably just someone selling girl scout cookies I convinced myself.

"Kori open the door right now!"

I froze at the sound of Nathaniel's voice, he definitely wasn't happy. I'm not home I repeated over and over to myself in some hopes that he'll believe that.

The door handle jiggled and I could feel my heart drop to my stomach. He knew how to pick a lock.

Forgetting my food I ran upstairs tripping on the final step. If there was ever a zombie apocalypse I would be doomed. I ignored the forming bruise on my leg and stumbled into my room. Just as I was about to shut the door a foot wedged between it and the wall. My heart pounded as I slowly looked up to meet Nathaniel's grinning face.

"Caught ya." he said as if we were playing a game of hide and seek.

"Oh hey Nate, care to move your fatass away from my door?" I asked innocently.

He licked his lips and pushed against the door knocking me backwards almost onto my ass. I hadn't noticed that he was soaking wet with his red hoodie clinging to him.

With another step forward he grabbed a hold of my hand pulling me towards him, "Why have you been ignoring me babe?"

"Last time I checked you aren't holding me by a leash." I countered.
