"You have a sick sense of humor." I remarked.

It's quiet, tense, uncomfortable, the list goes on. I waited for Calum to bust out laughing, slapping his knee while saying 'You should've see your face.' It doesn't come.

Calum turned the key to crank up the engine moving his hand to the gearshift, "Let me just get you home and I'll explain everything."

I smacked his hand away, "No you're explaining everything right now. Are you high or something?"

"I'll tell you but you can't interrupt." He refused to meet my stare and his body had shifted slightly to put as much distance between us as possible. I nodded even though I knew I didn't have that much self control.

Calum's hands moved through his hair pulling it up into a quiff only to flatten it back down and repeat several more times. I had always hated that habit. It's like he couldn't be happy with his hair no matter how many styles he put it in. Once I even threatened to shave it off just so he would stop.

"So ah when I first started hanging out with Kori outside of school,"he began,"she had come over to my house to get some help on this research paper. I introduced her to my mom and everything then after she left my mom told me to never bring her back again."

His tongue wiped over his lips before he continued, "She wouldn't tell me why but I just kept asking and asking until she snapped."

My leg was bouncing up and down in anticipation. it felt like being on a roller coaster just as it was about to drop.

"She said that my dad had gotten another girl pregnant not long after my mother got pregnant with me. Kori's mom." He scrunched his nose in distaste, "When my mom found out my father left us. He just left my mom to take care of toddler Calum. Kori was probably drowned in presents and affection while I was left with nothing not even a card on my birthday."

The words escaping Calum's mouth were hard to swallow. He had always had this hope that his dad would come back, that he just had to get his life together for a bit and then he would magically appear again. It seemed far fetched before but now it was like Pluto, too far away to be acknowledged.

"I know it's stupid now but at the time all I thought about was revenge. She took away someone that was suppose to be my best friend and teach me the ways of life." He chuckled lightly to himself, "Maybe that's why I'm so fucked up."

"What revenge are you talking about?" My voice was raspy due to my dry throat.

"I wanted to hurt her anyway that I could so that's why I was so in on this plan to make her fall for you. She would think you were her Prince Charming and then you toss her aside like some used tissue. I didn't think you would get so attached so I talked to Nathaniel to get him to you know charm her and obviously that didn't work." He rolled his eyes dramatically.

"I needed to step up my game a notch. When you went to her house a couple of days ago I sent Nathaniel and a few of his boys to your house. They threatened your mom about getting you sent to prison or some shit like that if you didn't stay away from Kori. That's why she put you on lock down. When you ran over to my house asking me to cancel your plans with her I told her you were taking another girl instead and now here we are." He took a deep breath leaning against the headrest of the car seat.

He was expecting me to say something by the way he was chewing at his lip with his eyes screwed closed. I didn't mutter a single word. I couldn't breathe, it felt like tiny little hands constricting my lungs. In one quick motion I jumped out the car not bothering to shut the door.

He didn't bother calling after me or chasing me for the matter. I just watched while he drove away blowing rubble and dust into the air.

Did I just lose a friend?
