I didn't bother going back through the house instead I led Kori around the side hoping it would expedite the process of getting us out of here. She shouldn't have been here in the first place, I knew this crowd and they weren't the people to be around especially when you're inexperienced and alone. Kori was like a deer and these people were hunters with their guns aimed straight at her head. This couldn't happen again, I wouldn't let this happen again. Especially since he was here.

"Gotta help him." Kori murmured.

I clenched my jaw turning around holding her in place by her shoulders, "We won't help him. We can't help him. He tricked us, he betrayed us! He's a distrustful bastard!" My voice had risen with each word that I spat in anger. I didn't care if someone heard me I wanted the whole neighborhood to hear. I wanted Calum to hear.

Sirens wailed. The sky lit up with reds and blues and I knew we were screwed.

"Come on." I clutched Kori's hand running back the way we came.

There were a few shouts followed by silence as the music was cut off. I couldn't get caught here I was already suspicious enough and I'm sure the cops would love to lock me up once and for all.

Leaves crunched here and there under my feet, I needed to sneak away.

"I'm not going in there!" Kori protested as we reached the edge of the woods.

I tugged her hand ignoring her protests, "C'mon"

"No no!" She shook her head stumbling backwards landing flat on her ass. Any other time I would've laughed but I needed to leave now.

She was always so confident, independent but at the moment she looked absolutely terrified. I didn't know whether it was from the alcohol in her system or that she was legitimately afraid.

"Don't be scared we'll walk through and get home as quickly as possible. I'll be right by you the entire time ok?"

I lifted her off the ground wiping off some of the wet grass from her back. She didn't speak she only grabbed my hand so I took it as my sign to proceed.

It was pitch black and the only light we had came from my phone screen that was blinking red as the battery drained. I stumbled over roots and pushed past large leaves all the while having to hold onto Kori's shaking self.

I had to squint to search for a source of light and managed to spot a few small orbs to the left. A low thud and a groan broke from behind us making us both jump. The situation couldn't be more cliche.

A figure stepped out from behind a tree trunk limping. I raised my phone illuminating only half of his face.

"Calum!" Kori's hand left mine to embrace him. He seemed about as shocked as us but nevertheless returned the gesture.

I marched up to the two ripping them apart, "Don't touch her."

He put his hands up trying to claim his innocence, "Sorry, I'm just glad she's ok."

"Why should you care?" I didn't want to talk to him but my mouth spoke for me.

He shrugged, "She's my sister."

"And you're her shit brother."

Kori had returned to me wrapping her arms around my waist from behind.

"I know but just please get her home. You have all the time in the world to hate me but she needs to rest."

He looked like shit with dirt caked onto his clothes and twigs darting every which way in his hair. It seemed like he had just risen from the ground and was now a zombie walking around as an empty corpse.
