Description - Optimus was occasionally leaving the base without reason so one day you followed him to see where he's been going.
During the times when the Autobots are clear of anything or when there's no Decepticon activity, our leader had been taking absence without notifying anyone. Not even Ratchet knew, but whenever I asked he would nag at me that I shouldn't be butting into his business anyway. I was just curious that's all. I don't understand why the others haven't caught onto it like I have. It could be that they are busy with their own priorities. Arcee, Bulkhead, and Bumble had their own human partners to keep them company. I however was alone to oblige myself which usually consisted of boredom. And when i'm bored, I tend to seek out some kind of outlet. I haven't really gotten anywhere but I was hoping I would catch him leaving the base and follow him. Thankfully this was one of those moments.
I was awaking a short charge as a part of my day-off routine since there wasn't much time I could get it during the whole conundrum of things with our enemies. I was walking towards the main bridge to the base from my dorm down the hallway and before I walked out I heard the almost thunderous steps of the Prime's presence. I hunched over and looked around the corner from the hallway to spectate the area.
There the leader stood facing away ahead of where the main terminal was. My optics focused as I was trying to interpret what he was doing. He was inserting some kind of coordinates on the screen that was connected to the portal. I glanced left and right from where Optimus was standing to see if there was anyone else but it looked like he was alone. I felt anxious as this looked like the moment I was waiting for to catch him in the act of leaving. I didn't think it was fair hiding and watching him without his knowledge, but I didn't want to ruin this opportunity.
He pulled the lever and I heard the portal spring to life with a loud buzzing sound from the left of me and I stood a couple of steps back to make sure I wasn't completely exposed. Sure enough Optimus walked onto the walk way that led to the portal and began to walk off. A rush of adrenaline was pushing me to take off after him. I had to wait for the perfect moment, but I also had to act fast. I stood my ground until he was just about to disappear into the portal and then I lunged forward.
The lights from within the base started to dissipate and I was found in complete darkness. I struggled to adjust to the new lighting as I heard the portal exit shrink until the only sound left was the wind blowing through what appeared to be grass. I was in some open field with Optimus. I looked up to see a widespread of stars sparkling brightly within the dark blue sky. The sky had a lighter tinge the closer to the horizon it reached. It was beautiful. I looked up to the Prime who was still unaware of my presence and watched him glance up to admire the same view.
"So this is where you've been going this whole time Prime?", I tried not to speak to loud. Optimus gasped as I started my sentence and looked over his shoulder plate. Once he realised it was me he turned his body around. still in shock.
"(Y/n)? How did you get here?", he asked firmly. I looked behind me to the direction the portal had been.
"I followed you here. I was curious as to where you have been going during the times you've left the base without mentioning a thing to anyone of where you were going", I answered. I wasn't sure how Optimus was going to react to this. The features on his faceplates were too dim to see but I could see his two bright blue optics glowing down towards me.
"I apologise if my unexplained absence had caused you and the team to be worried. If you must know, I come out to this peaceful valley to clear my mind", he spoke securely as he looked around the sky. I followed his gaze, drawn into the moment. The chill sensation of the wind hitting my plates and whistling as it forked through the meadow. I took a deep intake.
"I...never thought such a place on Earth existed", I breathed out. The leader walked up the slanted hill we were on to the highest point and lunged over to sit down. With one arm resting on his leg, he brought out his arm to reach out to me.
"Come (Y/n), I want to share with you this experience", he offered. His gesture felt so welcoming. I happily nodded in agreement and made my way over to sit beside him. His arm pulled away from the spot I sat and he reached around me to place his servo on my shoulder plate. I looked over to the touch of his servo and then looked back at him with my dermas parted. I could finally see some lightning on his face. He was giving me a noticeable smile. It was so infectious that it caused me to smile back. We both peered upwards simultaneously.
"I choose to come here because this is one of the only places on Earth that you can see a clear view of the galaxy without it being clouded with the harsh gases that leak into the atmosphere from cities and other human constructions", Optimus explained.
"I am aware that not all the star systems nor the other space anomalies can be seen from the Earth's surface like on Cybertron, but being in this quiet, peaceful residence puts me at ease", he spoke calmly.
I was convinced by his words. Taking the time to enjoy the little things in life such as stargazing brought a whole new perspective on being at peace. It existed in all sorts of forms. I was absorbed into this spontaneous feeling that I've never felt before. The sky was drawing me in.
I started to feel like I was just a small life form that was part of something bigger. Beyond these two home planets we've known, there was so much out there that we didn't know. I felt so safe within my leader's grip. For once I felt as though there wasn't even a war going on at this moment, that we were free of any danger and that we had finally found peace on this planet that we initially arrived to protect. Optimus Prime and I have been through so much together, and deep down I had only wished for this nightmare with the Decepticons to end. I didn't want to fight anymore. I didn't want to be worried that at any day we could loose someone close to us. I just wanted every day to feel like this.
Optimus turned his helm away from the stars to look at me. He must of sensed that I was getting emotional and pulled me in closer.
"I feel like you are going through the same thing's I have during this event. It is only natural to feel overwhelmed (Y/n)", he tried to comfort me. My spark beat was beating against my chassis, the feeling of contentment.
"I'm just happy that with all the bad that has gone on with this world, there is still something that we can enjoy as an escape from this harsh reality", I teared up. I heard the Prime grunt in agreement.
I was drawn out from the moment when he grabbed my sides with his servos and pulled me up to position me on his lap. I looked at him with astonishing optics. My chassis began to swell up with undeniable satisfaction and I wrapped my arms around his chest plate. My helm was against his robust frame, and I could hear the deep pulse of his own spark beating softly. He returned the affection by holding my helm firmly against him with his servo, his other on my waist. I shut my optics, sinking into the embrace.
"(Y/n)..", Optimus whispered. "Being underneath the stars brings me unquestionable serenity, but being with you here makes it all more enjoyable". His sweet words filled me up with gratification. I felt myself being lifted up slightly as my leader placed a gentle kiss on my forehead. My optics shut once more. I was embarrassed to look at him any further. Instead I nuzzled myself into his warmth and let my problems drift away.
"Th-thank you Optimus Prime", I said harmoniously.
