I hesitated for a second, dreading his answer. I've ignored him, Zero, for days. For some reasons, I felt really embarrassed to have sent him the emails that I sent.
I just got really excited about the school's new program that I forgot for a quick second that the person I'm emailing goes to the same school I did.
And I just can't believe myself for, just, uggh. People always told me to think before I say something or in this situation, think before I click. But that was always a problem for me.
I finally hit send and hated the moment itself. I closed my laptop, pushing it aside. I stood up from my seat and shuffled over to my love seat, where my backpack is patiently waiting. I grabbed it and swing it on my shoulder and went straight out.
I passed down our kitchen counter, grabbed an apple, said my goodbye to my mom, then headed straight out to walk to high school.
It was always a short walk. Except for today. When all I can think about was if Zero told my secret to everyone. I know that he said that he wouldn't but, come on, I can't even trust my own mom about this. I just never felt. . . open enough to talk to someone about things like this. So, I think that was why I told Zero the things I've sent him. It was like there was a bottle inside of me that opened up that I just had to tell someone those things I'd never say to anyone upfront.
But why, just why do I have to like Maven? The popular dude, student-body president, smartest and coolest kid on campus. Always has been the smartest, always has been the coolest.
I didn't know him personally, but from what I saw with him, he was a good person.
I was friends with this girl named Lexi. She was pretty nice. I've been friends with her since seventh grade. We werent not that close, but we were good friends.
One day, I was walking through the school hallways after school hours because I'm an aide, and I organize things. School things, of course.
Then I saw Lexi. She was pretty popular by then. Part of the student council, part of the soccer team.
I saw her walking towards me, holding her jacket and her gym bag on one arm, a binder and a book on the other, and a backpack hanging on her shoulder.
"Hey, Lexi," I said to her when I reached her in the middle of the main hallway, where all the other hallways intersect.
"Hey, Angel," she smiled, having a little trouble with her things. She struggled keeping them all off the floor.
There was silence for a few seconds, both of us not really knowing what to say. I hated it when was awkward like this. This was why making new friends was always a bad idea for me.
"Well, I gotta go to soccer practice," she said, finally.
"Yeah, um, have fun."
"I'll see you tomorrow," she looked back at me, trying her best to wave a hand but failing at it terribly because of how much she was holding.
I turned around and started walking again, and that was when I heard him.
"Hey, Lexi you need help with that?" The voice asked.
I stopped on my tracks, my feet side by side.
"Yeah, thanks, Maven," Lexi's voice said.
I carefully turned around, the image of Lexi and Maven at the end of the hall came in the frame.
