Maven walked in the clinic. My bag was on his back as well. I asked him to come bring it here because I left it on the bench we were sitting on a while ago. Phillip was sleeping, the nurse was at the front table outside this room.

"Hey," I told Maven as he entered.

"Hey." He said back. "How's he doing?"

I looked at Phillip. "Dying."

He seriously had a really bad fever and I didn't understand why he went to school today in the first place and even swam! He was okay the whole last week. I wondered why he just got sick all of a sudden.

Like he read my mind, Maven said, "He swam the whole weekend. Non-stop."

I looked up to him and a smile formed on my face. "Did you just--"

"--No. I didn't." Maven replied before I could even finish.

I scoffed. "I'm pretty sure that was a Hamilton reference I heard there."

"I don't know enough Hamilton lyrics to reference it," Maven said in an informing voice as he hands me my backpack.

The weather was getting cooler every day. Fall was making its exit and the winter coming in strong. I guessed about two weeks from now I'd be wearing millions of layers of jackets and sweatshirts. But, in our town, it was really hard to predict. It was like our weather couldn't decide if it wanted to be cold or warm. Today it might be sunny with only a little breeze, then tomorrow it was gonna be raining hail the size of bowling balls.

"He was complaining about not making it to fourth hour because of some quiz you guys have," I told Maven as I prepared to leave for my next class.

In a blink of an eye, Maven was pushing Phillip up. Phillip was startled and woke up.

"Fourth hour in three minutes," Maven said while he pushed Phillip out of the bed.

"What are you doing?!" I asked.

I just pretended that they didn't hear me because I got no response.

"Fourth hour?" Phillip asked, weak at first. Then it was like reality hit him hard, "Fourth Hour!"

Maven ran to the end of the room and handed Phillip his backpack. Phillip was out of the bed like he wasn't sick at all.

"Your health is more important than the quiz!" I reasoned trying to raise my voice. "Are you two even thinking?!"

I wondered what Marge would've done if she was here. Would she have supported this? She probably knew better than me on why every test is so important to Phillip that he would take it even in his situation.

But I didn't and even if I did, I probably wouldn't let him out of this room anyway.

I felt like I was invisible as they ran out of the room and left me in here.

"Hey!" The nurse stood up from her chair as Phillip and Maven passed her running.

"I'll be back!" Phillip yelled and they were out of the door.

I stood there, stunned. I've never seen a sick person run that fast. He didn't even thank me for taking him here.

All of a sudden, Maven came running back, stopping at the door. "Movie? After school?"

Oh, right. He was my boyfriend now.

I gave him a nod and he left running away again. How important was that test anyway? I mean, I had a test at sixth hour too but if I was in Phillip's condition, I am okay with missing it and just taking it the next day.
