Flashback

She dropped Natsu and ran out of the cafeteria, crying. Everything was quiet. "Sis?" Natsu squeaked. Emma got up and ran out after Sydney.

Where Gajeel was sitting, he was froze in place, eyes wide. 'Shit, what have I done?' he thought.

End of Flashback

Nobody's POV

Sydney ran into the girls bathroom and, thankfully, it was empty. She ran into the last stall on the far end and locked the door. She sat on the floor, buried her head in her knees, and bawled. After a while, Sydney heard the bathroom door open and she went silent. She watched a pair of blue shoes walk up to the door to her stall and stop. There was a light knock and she heard her best friend's voice say, "You okay Sydney? Can you unlock the door please?". Sydney reached up and unlocked the door. Emma walked in and sat next to Sydney with her back against the wall. She didn't say anything. Tears started welling up in Sydney's eyes and she sniffed. Emma put her arm around Sydney's shoulders. Sydney started bawling and tucked her head into Emma's shoulder. Emma started to use her fingers to brush through Sydney's hair. "Shh, shh... It's all going to be alright. I'm here for you. You're not here alone." she whispered, tears coming to her eyes at seeing her best friend cry. Emma laid her head on top of Sydney's as tears started streaming down her face. They just sat there, crying. After a while, Emma got up and got a couple of Kleenexes. She gave some to Sydney and kept some. They both blew their noses and threw them in the nearby garbage. "You ready to go?" Emma asked. Sydney shrugged but then cringed. Emma scrunched her eyebrows. "Stand up," she ordered. Sydney looked up at her with bloodshot eyes, sighed and slowly got up. "Turn around," Emma ordered once Sydney was up. Sydney turned around and Emma lifted up the back of her shirt. There was a giant purple bruise stretching from her lower/middle back to the nape of her neck. "That Bastard!" Emma shouted. "I'm fine," Sydney said. Emma was about to march out of the bathroom to beat the shit out of Gajeel but Sydney grabbed her arm. "Just don't do anything to Gajeel. Please," Sydney said. Emma sighed."Ok I wont do anything. Are you coming?" she said. "I-I'm gonna go home. I can't face him right now," Sydney said. "I'm coming with you," Emma said. "No!" Sydney shouted and Emma's eyes widened. "I'm sorry Emma. I just need some alone time. I can make up the work later. You should stay here and keep Lucy company. Laxus isn't much of a talker," Sydney said with a forced smirk. "Okay, but promise me. Promise me that you will get better." Emma said and she looked away. "I promise," Sydney said and hugged Emma.

The two walked out of the restroom and walked separate ways. Sydney got on her black motorcycle with flames and drove home. For the first time, she regretted her choice of  vehicle because the vibrations of the motorcycle were causing extreme pain in her back.

Emma walked back to the cafeteria and finished lunch. After lunch was over and everyone was back in class, Gildarts asked where Sydney was. "She went home," Emma said. "Do you know why?" he asked. "I would prefer not to talk about it," Emma said, looking down. Gildarts nodded and they continued with class.

After school was over, Emma, Lucy, Laxus, and Gajeel went home to pack for the overnight project. They figured that Sydney wouldn't be coming. Emma was at home tidying up a few things before the others came. Wendy wasn't home because she was staying at a friend's house. Emma made some food and waited for the others to show up. Lucy was first, then Laxus, then Gajeel. Emma scowled a bit when Gajeel walked in. They were sitting around a table eating  some spaghetti that Emma made. Everyone was silent, and the meal was getting very awkward.  They heard a rumbling outside and everyone gave Emma a confused look. "Just a motorcycle. They're common here." she said and they nodded. After a while, the door opened and Sydney was standing there with her suitcase in hand. "Hey guys," she said with a small smile. Emma and Lucy jumped up and ran over to her. Emma hugged her softly but Lucy squeezed which made Sydney cringe a bit, but nobody noticed. Laxus put a hand on Sydney's shoulder and nodded with a slight smile. Gajeel stood up, but stood back and looked away. He didn't think approaching her like this after what he did was a good thing to do. The girls stopped hugging Sydney and she started walking towards the bathroom to change into her pajamas.
