About an hour after my outburst, Riley had offered for me to go rest, knowing exactly how it was to push yourself too far with your powers. I was sitting at the foot of her and Erik's shared bed, feeling awkward knowing what went on in it. I tried not to think about it since it brought back bad memories, so I bit my lip and sighed, my eyes roaming over the clean floor. I groaned, coming to a stand and walking out of the room, heading towards the living room where the couple sat. Riley looked up at me, pausing in her sentence, her eyes full of confusion. I walked up to her, leaning down to grab her hand before pulling her up and dragging her out of the room.
"Where are you going?" Erik's voice came from behind us.
"Shut up!" I shouted, continuing to drag her. I let go when we were inside Ben's room and I shut the door, locking it so Erik couldn't come in.
She stood there confused while I walked over to the giggling baby in the crib. "Beth?"
"Yeah?" I replied, not looking back towards her as I lifted Ben up and cradled him. "I'm sorry if this seems creepy, that's not why I dragged you in here. But I figured since we're already in here..." I trailed off, taking his little hand into mine. "I just forgot what it felt like to hold a baby."
"Beth, are you alright? I've used my powers to a point that caused me pain but... That, out there? That was-"
"Insane, I know. I'm sorry for ruining the place." I said, still not taking my eyes off the baby in my arms. "I know you're probably terrified that I'm holding your son, but I'm fine..." I sighed and pressed a light kiss to Ben's forehead. "I don't even know where to begin. The reason I brought you in here I mean."
"Which is...?" Riley dragged out. I didn't have to look over at her to know her arms were crossed.
"The way I... Came back. Erik doesn't understand why I'm so terrified to be around people again. I've been living on my own ever since I woke up on that table in the mansion. I could feel my powers growing and getting stronger. I used to be able to control them when I got angry or upset, but now? Forget about it..." I explained, my voice cracking at the end." I shouldn't be alive. Not after what happened. So why am I? What the fuck happened that allowed me to stand here?"
I heard Riley walk closer to me, her chin resting on my shoulder as she watched me play with her son. "I don't know." She said simply. "But I don't think you should let that take over your life. Somehow you survived. I don't know how or why, but you did. And I don't think you should torture yourself over it." She explained, letting out a long sigh afterwards and picking her head up off of my shoulder. "I think you should go see Charles. I know you're afraid of what he'll think or say, but you'll never know until you go. And I know that no matter how he reacts, he will forgive you. He loves you too much to push you away after getting you back."
I finally looked over at her, our eyes meeting. "You don't believe that." I stated, setting Ben back in his crib before heading towards the door. "If it were Erik... Would you forgive him?"
Riley sighed again, her eyes going to the floor before looking back into my own. "I would."
I scoffed and rolled my eyes. "You know I can see into your head, right?"
"Beth-"
"No! No, no, no." I hissed. "You don't have to lie to me to try and make me feel better, alright? I can see right through you, you're weak minded! You can't shut me out." I practically yelled. I heard Ben whining behind me, seeing Riley's eyes glance over at him. "You're afraid of me. You don't have to pretend like you're okay with me being here just because Erik used to fuck m-" I blinked and Riley was gone and I was suddenly on the floor with her pinning me down, one of her arms going over my throat.
"You need to learn how to shut up, Beth, you really do." Riley said with a harsh tone. "You're right. I don't want you here, I don't want you near my baby." She paused, putting more pressure on my throat. "I lost one family already. I'm not going to lose another one just because you wouldn't stay dead! I tried to be nice to you, Beth. I wanted to be friends. But not after what you did today..."
I grunted and used my powers to throw her across the room, quickly standing and running towards the door, getting stopped by Riley coming through the floor. "You should move." I warned, clenching my teeth. "I played nice, now get out of my way before you end up like poor Edward." I jumped backwards when Riley threw a punch at me, my eyes widening.
"You freaking bitch!" Riley screamed, launching at me again.
I growled, using my powers to throw her against the ceiling and then the floor, feeling satisfied when I saw I had knocked her out.
"What the fuck is going on in there?!" Erik yelled, his footsteps growing closer towards the room. "Riley, Beth, open the door!"
I bit my lip and squeezed my eyes shut. "Shit..." I whispered before quickly sitting in the chair on the other side of the room, pushing into Riley's mind to take over. I made her stand and head over towards the door, which surprised me since I had never done this before. I forced her to open it and I put on a fake smile.
"Hey, I was just having a nice conversation with Beth, she's lovely, I know why you had a thing for her a while ago." I said through Riley.
Erik noticed me in the corner of the room and his eyes narrowed. "I thought I heard screaming?"
I shook my head, making Riley do the same. "Just a little fun, Erik." I said, cursing myself for releasing Riley a bit, catching Erik's attention. I groaned and dropped my hold on her, smirking when she limply fell to the ground. "You caught me!"
"Beth, what the hell did you do?!" He asked while kneeling next to Riley's unconscious body.
"Okay, now, I know it looks bad... But! She deserved it." I defended myself, standing and putting my hands up. "She was being a bitch."
"So you knocked her out?!"
"You seem surprised." I joked.
"Beth, what the fuck happened to you!" Erik yelled, cradling Riley in his lap.
"I'm pretty sure I explained earlier that I can't control my powers. Not anymore, anyway." I paused, walking towards the door behind the pair on the floor. "Besides, she almost knocked me out. She was on top of me!" I chuckled humorlessly and kneeled behind Erik, pressing my lips to his cheek. "I honestly don't know what you see in her. She's extremely dull and can't take a joke. You know you miss me. You miss what we used to be..." I whispered, my hand running down his back. "How good I felt around you... My hands against your back, clawing..." I breathed against his neck before I stood and exited the room.
A/N: Yeah... If you thought Beth wasn't going to be a little bitchy/evil you were wrong. And if you thought her and Riley would be friends... Wrong again :3 Beth's character traits in half of this story is clearly heavily inspired by Dark!Phoenix in X-Men: The Last Stand... Don't worry, she still loves Charles, she's just pulling Erik's leg. And she's not going to be a bitch the whole book. Just for right now... I'm sorry TT-TT
