Jean P.O.V

The sounds of Beth's screams and cries for someone to let her out were echoing through the silent hallways in the basement, the occasional bang of something being thrown following shortly after. My heart broke more and more for her. She was being held in that med room like an animal, when all she needed was help to rid her of whatever the hell was doing this.

"I... saw some things. Glimpses into the life she built after us. After coming back." I explained, trying to tune out the angry screams coming from a couple rooms over. "She used too much power to take down Apocalypse."

"We already knew this, Jean." Charles said with a shake of his head.

"I wasn't finished, dad." I hissed. "Her powers seem to have created some sort of cocoon around her... It held her in a type of sleep while her body healed from all of the damage."

"That doesn't explain why she's like this, though." Hank's quiet voice barely sounded over the numerous slams.

"Once again, not finished." I said with a roll of my eyes. I heard Scott chuckle beside me, forming a smile on my lips. "Something must have snapped within her over the time she's been away from us. It hasn't always been this bad." I said with a huff. "Now I'm finished."

"Something like what?" Scott asked.

"The part of her that got revenge on those men..." Charles spoke up after a couple moments silence. "Everyone has a type of darkness within them that they can keep pushing down. Beth 'died' in battle. She wasn't able to push it down while she was under. She woke up ready to fight and she's been ready to fight and kill ever since."

"But why doesn't she remember most of it?" Hank asked. "She didn't know where she was for Christ sake."

"From what I saw... she only remembers bits and pieces." I explained, flinching when an even louder scream sounded through the empty basement. "Probably because she's not in total control anymore."
