1974 Third Person P.O.V
Beth stood in front of the floor mirror, her heart racing in her chest as her eyes roamed over her body in the reflection. She had to admit to herself... She looked gorgeous. A small smile crept onto her face when she ran her hands over the skirts of her dress. White was never her color considering it was so easy to stain. Beth was thrown out of her thoughts when there was a knock on the door behind her.
"Are you decent?" Hank's voice came through the wooden blockade.
"Yes, come in." She answered, another smile gracing her features at the slim man entering the room in his suit. "Well, you sure clean up nice."
Hank gave a lopsided grin before blushing. "Y-you look absolutely stunning."
Now it was Beth's turn to blush as she thanked her friend. "It's... not too much?"
"No, not at all. You're going to blow him away, Beth. Trust me." Hank assured before giving the woman a hug. "Are we ready?"
She gave a breathy chuckle while her heart was pounding. "Yes and no."
Hank smiled, pulling the brunette into a short hug. "Everything is going to be okay."
"Thank you, Hank." Beth said quietly, pulling away from him. She gave one last shaky breath before nodding. "Okay." She linked arms with the scientist as the door in front of them opened, revealing the aisle leading towards the man she loved with all her heart and being. She watched as the little guests they had invited rose to their feet, all turning to look at her.
With each step the duo took, her heart began to beat faster and faster. Her hands were shaking and her legs were weak. Beth swallowed the lump that had formed in her throat, her eyes not leaving those of Charles Xavier ahead of her.
After what seemed like an eternity, Hank handed Beth off to the Professor, a reassuring smile on his face. She kissed his cheek softly before he walked off to his seat, thanking him once more.
When she turned to meet the eyes of the man who changed her life for the better, she saw that they were threatening to spill tears.
"Beth you..." He gulped, suddenly getting flustered. "Look ravishing."
Beth giggled and took his hands in her own. "And you look very dashing." She felt a tear slip down her cheek before he reached up to wipe it away with his thumb. "You're standing, Charles."
Charles chuckled. "I wasn't going to marry the most absolutely amazing woman I've ever met while sitting in a bloody wheelchair." He joked before turning to the officiant who was patiently waiting for the two to stop chatting.
Beth was so focused on the man in front of her that she almost couldn't hear the world around her. She felt almost drunk on him, just his face gave her that intoxicated feeling. Gave her the sense that she was floating and didn't have to worry about anything.
She had never noticed how much she truly loved him. How much Charles meant to her and how he made her feel just with a touch of his hand.
"And do you, Beth, take Charles to be your lawfully wedded husband?" The officiant asked, snapping her out of her daze.
It was then that she noticed that she was full on crying. She gave a watery smile, a giggle coming passed her lips. "I do."
"Beth and Charles, you have expressed your love to one another through the commitment and promises you have just made. It is with these in mind that I pronounce you husband and wife. You have kissed a thousand times, maybe more. But today the feeling is new. No longer simply partners and best friends, you have become husband and wife and can now seal the agreement with a kiss. Today, your kiss is a promise. You may kiss the bride." The minister declared, a smile on his face.
Charles cupped Beth's cheek, pulling her into him gently before placing his lips on hers and placing a hand on her waist as her arms wrapped around his neck.
When they pulled away, Beth hugged him tightly, burying her face into his neck. "I love you."
Charles rubbed her back, pecking a kiss to her neck before saying, "I love you too."
NOW
Beth studied the picture in the frame that currently stood on the desk she was sat at. She picked it up, smiling when she saw what it was a picture of. She chuckled, her finger running over the two people in the image. Herself and Charles on their wedding day.
"Reminiscing?" Speak of the goddamn devil.
"Yeah." She responded, her eyes not leaving the picture. "Remember when you had hair?" She joked.
Charles scoffed playfully before grinning. "Remember when you weren't annoying?" He quipped back.
"Oh, ha ha." Beth giggled. "You know you can't get enough of me." She said, sitting on his lap.
Charles suddenly dropped his playful attitude, his arms wrapping around her waist. "I just wish I had realized it before you disappeared." He said sadly. "I've missed you."
"Charles-"
"I've missed being able to hold you." He interrupted before pressing his lips to hers. "Being able to kiss you and feel you..." He finished, leaning his head on her chest while she sat on his lap silently.
"I've-" Beth managed to get out before there was a loud knock on the door. She sighed, standing up. "I'll get it." When she opened the door, her body went cold. "You have got to be shitting me."
