Present Day - Beth's P.O.V

What the hell am I doing? Why did I think this was a good idea?!

My breathing picked up pace along with my heart as I grew closer and closer to X-Mansion, my feet apparently not agreeing with my brain since I was still walking.

I was about an hour or so away from the school, I had time to turn around and head back home... But I couldn't let myself.

This has been going on for too long, I'm not going to be a coward.

I paused in my tracks when I looked ahead and saw a familiar face heading towards. Okay, maybe I could be a coward... I ducked behind a wall, hoping he hadn't seen me.

I closed my eyes, hearing the footsteps grow closer. I thanked the heavens that I was covered in a shadow so it would be harder to spot me.

"Hold on... I think I saw someone run to hide back there." A woman warned from inches away.

"What?"

I clenched my teeth in hopes that would make my breathing a little softer. I didn't want him to see me. Not before Charles... He couldn't. Oh, please God. Just this once, be on my side?

"Hold Ben..." There was a moment of silence before I heard footsteps almost right up next to me. "Come out!" The woman warned.

I stayed still, hoping that maybe she would leave it alone and continue on her way with him. The next thing I knew I was shoved into the light and yelped in surprise, seeing the woman standing in front of me all of a sudden. Luckily my back was to him. I thought.

I kept my eyes on the ground, afraid of the reaction I would get from the couple in front of me. "I'm sorry, continue on your way... Please just go." I said quietly, hoping he wouldn't recognize my voice.

"We don't know what she could do." The woman spoke. She was frightened, I could tell.

"Hold on a moment, Riley. I know that voice..." Shit. "Turn around..."

"I'm more comfortable staring at the ground, thanks." I hissed.

"Turn. Around." He repeated, becoming impatient.

I swallowed hard, taking a stand on shaking legs. I still had my back turned to the three of them, my heart racing. "You have a family." I said with a sad smile, though he couldn't see.

"Erik, what's going on?" The woman, Riley, asked confused.

"Turn around!" His voice shouted, cracking as it did.

I slowly turned, my eyes meeting his before they looked at the baby in his arms. I then looked over to the woman who I assumed was his wife, seeing her look at me with narrowed eyes. "I bet this isn't how you thought this day was going to happen..." I spoke quietly, the back of my eyes stinging with tears. "You're a dad..."

"Erik, who is this?" Riley asked with a raised brow as she took the baby back in her arms.

"Raven if this is some way to cope with her death-"

"It's not Raven, Erik... It's me." I interrupted. "It's me..."

"Beth...?" He asked quietly, his eyes looking over me in shock.

--Time Skip Cock Block--

"You've been back for a year? And you didn't say anything?!" Erik hissed out in anger. "You made all of us think you were dead. Why would you even-"

"I had no other choice!" I shouted back. "I thought I would end up hurting somebody! Coming back to life after doesn't exactly scream normal to me. I wanted to protect all of you..." I said in a softer tone.

"You had a million other choices. Choices that wouldn't break our hearts, make us think that we lost someone we cared about!" Erik said, continuing to shout. He stopped his pacing and sat on the couch opposite me. He sighed and but his head in his hands. "I'm just... trying to understand why."

"Erik, she already told you why..." Riley said, defending me. "She was afraid, I can't exactly blame her."

"Does Charles know?" Erik asked after sighing again.

"No." I breathed out, making him pick his head up and scowl. "I was on my way to see him at the mansion... That's when I ran into you."

"So your own husband, the father of your child, still thinks you're dead." He said with a humorless chuckle. "So I suppose Jean and Scott are still in the dark, too?"

"Erik, I would really appreciate it if you got your head out of your fucking ass." I spat, coming to a stand with my fists clenched. Everything in the room began to shake as it became consumed by the purple energy coming from my hands. "You think I wanted this? To be living on my own while the man I love is miles away thinking I'm dead?!" The light above the three of us exploded in a shower of sparks while drawers in dressers began to open and slam shut repeatedly, papers and books flying everywhere. I felt my hair begin to rise up at the sudden rise in power I was using. Erik looked at me in shock, regret glossing over the anger in his eyes. "Please..." I cried, feeling my powers burning from the amount and force I was using. "Please..." I screamed, dropping to my knees. I heard a loud thud as everything collectively landed back on the ground aggressively.

The sound of Ben screaming and crying from the sudden outburst broke through the silence, making Riley run into his room to shush him.

The only sound in the living room was now my quiet sobs and Erik's heavy breathing. I closed my eyes, a sharp pain forming in my head. "This is why I stayed away..." I whispered, barely able to hear myself. "Why I ran and hid."

I heard Erik get off the couch to kneel down next to me, his arms wrapping around me loosely. "I'm sorry." He said quietly, smoothing down my hair.

I continued to sob in his shoulder, my thoughts going to Charles. If this is how Erik reacted, how the hell would he? "I told you..." I whined, sniffling. "It's not safe to be around me. Not anymore." I breathed, shutting my eyes. "I can't control them..."

A/N: All around me are familiar faces... *looks to Riley* WTF ARE YOU DOING HERE?!
