A/N: Sometimes I think of really messed up things I could do with this story *puts hand on chin* like yesterday I was thinking if I made this whole book the dream of Beth and she wakes up at the mansion shortly before Apocalypse starts, and book three and this one were all just a glimpse of the future. Heh. ALSO! I'm going to post the first chapter of my Logan story soon! Keep an eye out :3 P.S: Should all the chapters going forward start with a flashback? Or is this getting annoying? Lemme knooooow
Early 1962 before YFM
"Ten plus seven." I spoke, my eyes not leaving the book I was currently reading. "Scott, pay attention. I'm supposed to be helping you with your homework."
I heard a small groan from the child in front of me. "Seventeen." He paused, crawling into the bed with me. "I'm five, not stupid." The book that was in my hand was suddenly in those of the young Summers. "You're not paying attention either. You're reading West Side Story." I watched as he closed the book and put it on the nightstand before he looked back at me.
"What?" I asked, my eyebrows raised as I pulled him into my lap.
"Is Alex coming back?" Scott asked, a sad tone in his voice. He put his arms around my neck when I pulled him into a hug, my heart breaking a little for the child in front of me.
"I-..." I sighed, rubbing his back gently. "I'm sure he will, Scott." I pulled away so I was now making eye contact with the boy. "There's no way he'd stay away from the coolest, most awesome brother anyone could have." My voice faltered as I said this. My mind traveling back to Jack...
"I love you, Beth..." Scott said quietly before he buried his head back into my neck. "Please promise you won't leave me, too..."
NOW
I now sat opposite my 'brother' as he stood, my arms crossed as I bit my lip anxiously. "I just-..." I groaned, throwing my head back so I was looking at the blue sky above. "I wanted to apologize for...Pretty much everything." I finally got out, looking back to Scott.
"What do you mean?" He asked, his head tilting a bit.
"Well, I broke my promise I made to you when you were four." I explained, a frown forming.
"I was five, actually." He pointed out.
"Okay, smart ass." I quipped, earning me a chuckle from Scott. "The point still stands." I continued. "I broke my promise back then... And then after the battle with En Sabah Nur... I lied to everyone. I made you all think I was gone."
"You did what you thought was best. We've all learned to accept it and we've all forgiven you." Scott informed, sitting next to me on the bench in the process. "You're here now, that's what matters."
I turned my head to look at him before I closed my eyes. "I'm still sorry." I sighed, laying my head on his shoulder. "I miss Alex..."
"I do too..." Scott replied quietly, his arm wrapping around me. "But I'm sure he'd be saying the same things I am, Beth. You're home, now. You don't have to be afraid anymore."
"I never said I was afraid."
"I know, but it doesn't take a telepath to see that you are." Scott finished, placing a kiss to the top of my head.
"I love you, Scott..." I mumbled, taking his hand in mine. "You're still the coolest, most awesome brother anyone could have." I added jokingly.
"Don't forget badass." He chuckled. "But I love you too, Beth."
1973 3RD P.O.V
"Hey, mom...?" Scott called from his spot in front of the TV.
"What is it, Scott?" Mrs. Summers asked, coming into the living room quickly. "Honey, are you okay?"
"Look..." He replied, pointing towards the image on the screen from the sentinel reveal in D.C.
"Isn't that-"
"That's kind of why I called you in here, mom." Scott said with a roll of his eyes. "The news person said she helped save President Nixon today..." He paused, looking up at the shocked face of his mother. "Still hate her, now?"
Mrs. Summers rolled her eyes before huffing and storming back into the kitchen while Scott chuckled as he continued to stare at his 'sister's' image on the screen.
