"Holy shit..." Peter whispered. He went to take a step forward, getting stopped by Charles's hand. "She's alive?"
"Something is." Hank spoke up.
"What do you mean 'something'?" Raven asked, her eyes tearing up.
"Well, she-"
"Can speak for herself." A groggy voice interrupted. "Thank you, Hank." She said with kindness in her tone. Whether it was genuine or not, they'd never know.
BETH'S P.O.V
"Peter, good to see you're still here. And Amy..." I tilted my head, looking between the two. The pink haired girl gave a sympathetic smile. "Amy?" I felt a small hint of anger begin to bubble in the pit of my stomach, and I bit my tongue in an attempt to stop it from growing. "You-...You were dead."
"I brought her back." Jean said from her spot against the wall. "It's complicated." She huffed, her eyes heavy with lack of sleep. "I tried with you, but I guess you didn't need me to. That's why it didn't work." She added with a scoff.
"Jean-" Charles began, but was cut off by my voice.
"What do you want me to say, darling?" I started, feeling myself pulling at the restraints. "That I'm sorry I left to protect you all? That I wish I'd stayed and killed all of you?" I spat, my hands balling into fists behind my chair.
"Beth, you need to calm yourself." Hank spoke up from my right. "You're going to have another breakdown-"
"No, wait. No I know what you want me to say, sweetheart!" I said the last word with so much hatred in my voice that I didn't even recognize myself.
"Beth!" Charles shouted, wheeling over to me. "That's enough." He glared in my direction before turning to our daughter. "Why don't you go up to your room? Get some rest. All of you, actually." The group in front of us stood in silence for a few moments before following his order, turning on their heels and heading out of the door. When it was just the two of us, he turned back to me with annoyance clear on his handsome face. "What the hell was that?"
I rolled my eyes and pulled on the restraints again, letting out a sigh when they wouldn't budge. "Can you let me out of these fucking things?!" I hissed, leaning forward so our faces were almost touching to intimidate him. "Please." I adding with a sarcastic tone.
"As much as I'd love to." Charles shot back with the same tone I had used. "You said so yourself. You're out of control."
I growled, tipping the chair forward to get even closer to him, if that was even possible. "Go fuck yourself."
"Such harsh words for someone trying to gain my trust." Charles said simply before turning towards the door.
"Charles..." I called quietly, letting the chair back on all fours. "Please."
He stopped in his tracks before shaking his head, continuing on his way out the door. When it slid shut behind his retreating form, I couldn't stop the tears from falling. "Charles!" I yelled, my broken voice echoing in the little room. I thrashed violently in my chair, grunting when it tipped over on it's side with a loud cracking noise. I closed my eyes as my cheek now rested against the cool tiles of the floor, my heart beating in my ears. I opened my eyes again when I felt my wrists loosen, fumbling around with them until I could pull them in front of me. I looked down to my free arms before moving to undo the restraints on my legs as well.
I stood up, shakily making my way towards the door that kept me from getting out of here. I pressed my hand on the steel door, watching as it lit up purple before sliding open. I stepped out into the metal hallway, looking to both sides to see if anyone was still down here. My eyes landed on the doors to Cerebro and I frowned, remembering Alex and I destroying it. I walked towards it, zapping the scanner with my powers to make it open. Once I stepped inside and the door sealed shut behind me, I walked to the center console, my fingers running over the many buttons and dials.
I picked up the helmet and looked it over curiously before going to place it on my head, getting stopped by the sound of the door opening. "I figured this would be the first place you'd go."
"You mean you knew I would get out?" I asked, placing the helmet back onto it's little stand.
"Are you forgetting I'm a telepath? Or the fact that I've known you for.... Jeez, twenty-two years." Charles said, not moving from his place in the doorway.
"We're getting old, Chuck." I said with a small smile.
"D-Don't call me that..." He said with a chuckle. "Unless you want me to call you Bethany."
"Don't you dare!"
