"Stop it. Stop. Stop.. Stop! ALEX, GOD DAMMIT I SAID STOP!" I shouted, my heart sinking a bit when I saw the smile drop from his face. "I'm sorry. I'm just... Not in a very good mood right now, okay?" I tried to reason with him.

"Okay." He nodded, a short silence filling the air before he asked, "Anything I can do to help?"

"Uh, unless you can make your parents stop hating me, no." I informed him, my eyes rolling at the mention of Mr. & Mrs. Summers. "Just go talk to your mom's stomach or something." I sighed. I wondered if they would raise the new baby to hate me as well. Alex was the only one in the house who didn't, anyways.

Alex just stood there and stared at me, his eyebrows raised in confusion. "Beth, they don't hate you they're jus-"

"Afraid of me. I know." I cut him off, turning to walk into the woods. "You should go inside, it's getting dark."

"Where the hell are you going?" I heard him shout after me before there was thudding getting closer.

"Don't follow me, and don't talk like that." I ordered. "Look," I paused to look at him. "You're what? Eighteen? Nineteen?" I asked. "You saved me, and I'm thankful for that. But you don't have to follow me around to make sure I'm fine. Okay?"

"That's not why I like to be around you." Alex shot back at me. "You're like me, Beth. You're afraid of yourself, of what you can do. Just like me." He paused, walking ahead of me. "And you're the only person I've been able to get close to. I just don't want to lose a friend like you..."

I looked at him sadly before nodding. "Alright... I'm... Sorry?"

NOW

I bit the inside of my cheek as I sat on the stairs in the main room of the mansion, waiting for classes to get out so I could talk to someone in particular.

I heard the click of doors opening before kids began to pile out of the rooms, their chatter quieting when they caught sight of me. There were some whispers and gasps, some picked up their pace while others stood frozen.

"Isn't that Mrs. Xavier?"

"I thought she died?"

"I heard she killed someone the other day."

"What the hell happened to her?"

"She's hot." Smack.

"Shut up, she'll hear you!"

I swallowed the lump that formed in my throat as my eyes searched the crowd of kids when I finally saw him. I stood quickly, startling some kids. I looked at the one's who were talking about me, my eyebrow raising. "You guys know that Mrs. Xavier is a telepath, right?" I then looked to the one who got smacked by who I'm assuming was his girlfriend. "And thank you." I finished before running after the kid I was looking for.

Scott.
