Chapter 12: Duke's POV

It had been three days since we left New York. It felt like three centuries. We had no extra wood or anything for me to work on-- except for tables and stuff. We already had problems: monster attacks and three major gods visit us. See? There were a lot of threes. I was also turning fifteen in three weeks. I thought I was actually going to get a good night's sleep when I heard a crash! I got my building kit that was given to me by my dad and rushed down to see what had happened. I went to the kitchen where the sound came from.

"You see, Enyo? I told you I should've had the eye!" a hag snarled.

"Oh shut your toothless trap, Deino! We obviously landed somewhere safe!" another lady said.

"I want to use the tooth now, Pemphredo!" the hag named Enyo said. Enyo looked straight at me. "It looks like we have company, girls!" My knees buckled.

"Uh, hi," I said scared.

"You need not to be scared!" Deino said.

"Why would I be scared?" I said sarcastically, "Three, uh, people just crashed into the side our ship!" Deino grabbed the eye from Enyo. I cringed at the sight. Yuck. I tried to remember who these monsters were. Deino looked inside the cabinet where the gorgon's blood was.

"Ooh? I see one person on this ship killed one of our sisters?" Deino questioned.

"Y-yes," I stammered. I was afraid they would lash out and say, "I hate you!" and sob.

"Well, yay! Those gorgons are a big pain!" Pemphredo said joyfully. Suddenly, the history came back to me.

"But you're also children of Keto and Phorcys. Why aren't you wanting to kill me?" I asked confused. The hole where they came from suddenly got bigger. Water started slowly to rush in. I ran to the nearest table and took it apart as fast as I could.

"So you're a child of Hephaestus, aren't you?" Enyo asked me. I couldn't really concentrate with them asking me questions, I said something like, "Yuh."

I rushed to the hole. I boarded it up as fast as I could. I sighed from relief.

"You never answered my question," I said.

"Oh yes! Keto likes the gorgons better than us. She thought we were useless and said we couldn't find this ship! Well, we did, but we aren't going to harm you," Pemphredo said.

"Good," I replied.

"We better be off," Enyo said. With that, they bumped right where they damaged it before and left. I sighed with exasperation. I rushed to the nearest table again and fixed it.

The next morning, we ate at a very small table. Some had to eat on the floor. I had accidentally used all the large tables, meaning we only had two.

"You really had to use all the tables?" Alexandria asked.

"Yeah. Sorry about that," I replied. Earth smiled at me. I got all warm inside. My cheeks turned red.

Darci's eyes got wide. "Why did you have to use two tables?" she asked nervously.

"There was an incident with three Graeae. They almost made the ship drown," I answered. I regretted it after I said it.

"You mean we almost died?! I really hate being on this ship!" she exclaimed. We all laughed.

"Land ho!" Maika from outside shouted. We got up to see. I was excited. It was about time we got off this ship.
