Chapter 28: Duke's POV

It didn't seem like a surprise that Apollo knew about Destania's death. I mean, he's the god of prophecy. Apollo soon waved goodbye and disappeared. I thought we were going to have a boring day until the boat jolted forewords very fast. Indie rushed up to the deck to see what was going on. I rushed next to her to see what was going on. Right next to us was a big, no huge, whirlpool. I was slammed into the wall. This wasn't good.

"Sploosh!" the whirlpool sucked in more water. I was almost sure we would be dragged under water and possibly spit back out somewhere millions of miles away from our unknown destination.

I heard a scream. I went to the upper level and I saw Megan in the water, barely conscious. I instinctually jumped in the water to save her. I pulled at her, but she was just dead weight since she now was unconscious. I looked at the dark grey clouds and the pitch black water. It was like a black and white horror film. To make things worse, it was raining. I looked ahead at the water. Creepily, there was a bloodshot and huge eye staring at us. I screamed this time. Then I felt something brush my leg and screamed louder. It rose to the surface and almost made me wet my pants. I was breathless. It was only Indie.

"What are you doing? What's taking so long?" she asked me. She was completely dry.

"Megan is unconscious! Duh! The current is too strong! For stuck up Poseidon kids, I guess you don't have any flaws," I replied. She glared at me. She got Megan from my grasp and swam back to the ship, leaving me behind. I tried to catch up to them but I couldn't because of the current.

"What about me?" I asked.

"For stuck up Hephaestus kids, I'm sure you'll figure it out," she said acidly. I was fuming. Hmmph.

Just use your head, I thought. What can I do? I looked at the ship. It wasn't doing very well. It was getting closer and closer to be getting sucked in. My head went under for a second. I could drown. Please, father, I prayed, help me. I waited a few seconds and sighed. Of course he wouldn't help me. He's too busy.

Suddenly, I was rising from the water. Below me, a mechanical dolphin was there. A seatbelt locked me in and sped toward the ship. When I got on board, it shrunk and changed into a pen. It was kind of like Percy's but it wasn't a ballpoint pen where you would have to uncap it, all you had to do on mine was click it. I smiled at my new gift and thanked Hephaestus. Indie looked at me with disbelief. #1: I was back on the ship. #2: I got a gift from my dad. #3: I was dry. The dolphin's speed had dried me off. I smiled. Ha.

Water splashed on the deck. We were now dangerously close to the strongest part of the whirlpool. I now saw two bloodshot eyes with an evil glare in them.

"What monster is that?" Adam asked.

"Charybdis," Ralph and Indie said in unison. The monster's smile was the whirlpool itself. Indie sighed.

She then yelled, "Get below! Hurry! Grab food and blankets! Anything you can scramble together!" I followed her orders and grabbed a lot of wire. I quickly worked on an awesome tool: a force field. I went into a closet with Megan to care for her, and Adam was also there. Adam and I got our blankets and covered each other. I quickly woke Megan up and put a blanket on top of her. I did the same to myself.

I activated the force field. I heard Indie shut the waterproof doors that would hopefully block water from coming to the second floor. I squeezed my eyes shut and waited. A thrilling sensation was in my stomach as I felt the ship toss and turn.

Suddenly, I felt it. I had also grabbed some snorkels. We all put them on. A hole busted right beside me. I grabbed some wood to fix it before it got bigger. I sighed from relief. Then, something hit me on the head and I passed out.

Next thing I knew, I was rubbing my eyes. I was still on the ship in the same closet. Because of the force field, the closet was fine. I tried to open the door to the other rooms, but it was jammed. With all my might, I tried to open it. Adam was still unconscious but Megan was awake. She scrambled to help me, and we pushed together. Megan finally karate-style kicked the door open. It busted to pieces. I looked at her in disbelief.

"What? A girl's gotta learn some moves to survive on an island. Remember?" she asked.

"Oh yeah." Xenia, Derek, and Kat had told me about their adventure. We walked to the bedroom. Everything was sprawled on the floor. I saw some demigods. I walked into the bathrooms. Darci and Alexandria were there. It was a smelly and gross sight. They had sewage on them.

"So I guess we actually don't dump waste into the ocean. It stays here," Darci moaned. Adam laughed. Alexandria glared at him. He surrendered and helped her up. I helped Darci up.

"What about you guys?" Alexandria asked.

"We're fine. My man, Duke made an awesome force field," Adam replied. Darci frowned.

"A force field? Uggh! You guys need to share! We wouldn't have gotten waste on our heads if you shared!" Darci said in frusteration.

"Hey, it was a last minute thing," I said.

"Don't 'hey' me," Darci grumbled. She pushed us aside and began to explore in other rooms. I shrugged. I gave Adam and Alexandria some space and started looking around also. Indie and Ralph hid in the kitchen. I rummaged to find a granola bar. Luckily. I found one under a mess of stuff. This would take a lot of time to rebuild but we didn't have the time.
