Evelyn's P.O.V.
"Evelyn! Come here for a minute!" I groaned as my mom ordered for me in the kitchen. I sat up on the couch, turning off the TV. I walked slowly to the kitchen, noticing my mom on the phone nodding her head repetitively.
"Yes?" I said, folding my arms. I was perfectly comfortable in my spot on the couch.
I sighed as she gave me the one minute finger. Walking over to the fridge, I opened it and peered inside for something to eat. Just as I was about to grab an apple, my own cellphone rang. I looked at the caller. Lily.
"Lily I told you I didn't feel like leaving the house toni-" I stopped mid sentence when I heard her panicked voice calling my name.
"Evelyn?! Oh my God Evelyn." I stood up straighter. I looked at my mom who was still on the phone.
"Lily. What is it? What happened?" I asked quickly.
It was silent on the other end for a few seconds. I was just about to speak up again, but she beat me to it.
"It's Blake." Those two words chilled me to the bone. I stood frozen, confusion clear on my face.
"What about him?" I managed to say. I heard the front door open and Josh ran inside. He appeared out of breath and was panting.
"Evelyn-" He said the same time Lily spoke.
"He went to the emergency room. He got into a car accident." I dropped the apple I had been holding.
"Evelyn, there was an accident a few blocks down the street. Blake was in the car... I peddled straight home on my bike when I heard that he was involved." Josh breathed out in fast pants.
"Evelyn that was Mrs. Bridges, the lady who lives a few streets down from here. She said there was a car accident. She saw it happen. She described a boy in the car. I think it may have been Blake." My mom rushed to say.
"Evelyn, are you okay?" Lily spoke from the other end.
I was going to go crazy. I get the fact that Blake was in the car.
But is he okay?
"Evelyn?" My mom was suddenly near me. She peered at me, worry written across her face.
Blake got into a car accident?
"Evelyn?" My brother asked. He must have been near me, too, because his voice was a lot closer.
Was Blake okay? Did anybody care that he was okay?
"Evelyn, Dylan and I are on our way to the hospital closest to your house. He says we can swing by and pick you up if you want." Lily sounded worried about me since I hadn't spoken up. My mom and brother were worried about me.
But was anybody worried about Blake?
What if he wasn't going to make it? What if I never got to see him again?
I snapped out of whatever trance I was in. I couldn't afford to think like that. He was going to be okay.
He had to be.
I took a step back from my mother and Josh. I clutched the phone tightly. "Yes." I said to Lily, my voice hoarse. I hung up the phone and ran up the stairs to my room. I opened my closet door and grabbed my sneakers. I threw them on, then headed to my purse to grab a crumpled up five dollar bill.
