Prologue

'Sam you're being quiet again...' Blaire notes in a bored monotone, lifting her plucked eyebrows higher on her forehead. Her hand slides over my shoulder to my neck where she begins to massage. 'Was it your sisters?' she asks, puckering her lips.

I frown, glancing in her direction before looking back onto the road. 'No, of course not!-'.

'Hey, it was just a question!' she yells, snatching her hand back. I ground my teeth and think... It's you. But don't say anything.

'You know, you didn't have to invite me to your house for dinner...' she says while examining her perfectly shaped fingernails.

'I wanted to finally introduce you' I reply hurt. She rests her hand on my thigh as I drive her back to her own house.

'I know honey, it's just.....' she sighs and reapplies more lip gloss. 'You don't come from where I do... so it was a little awkward' she finishes.

'Sorry to bore you with my plain, ordinary, poor family' I reply coldly, gripping the steering wheel as I turn into her driveway. I hear her sigh.

'I didn't say that Sam!'. I shake my head, and tap the steering wheel to have something to do, besides be pissed off with her usual behaviour. I hear her click out of her seatbelt, and climb over the middle console. 'What are you-' I begin to ask, but her lips stop me.

She trails her hands down my chest, as she straddles me. Her tongue slips with mine, and I hear her moan, pushing her hips into mine. My mind hazes over the anger, as her hand comes between our hips and her tongue slips deeper.

The thunder pulls me back into reality, and the cherry stench of her lip gloss is overwhelming. I push her back, to give us some breathing room.

'What, you rejecting me now?' she asks, angered taking it the wrong way.

'Blaire..' I begin, but she slides off my lap and carefully staggers out the car in her six inch heels. It begins to drizzle as I see her stuff the gigantic purse under her top, making me chuckle. She sees me laughing at her, and she picks up a rock from her fancy front yard and begins to arch her arm back. I quickly drive back out, before she throws, and turn back onto the highway.

'Shit..' I exclaim, running one hand through my hair.

My mind flashes with the memory of her at dinner, picking her food that my family appreciated more than the average family. My mum asks politely if she didn't like the dish of potatoes, sausages and gravy. 'I would like a salad' Blaire replies. Mum goes through the time to make a salad, just for Blaire, but she only eats a little more than before, which has my sisters and mother upset.

When I was ushering Blaire out of our plain blue, one story house mum placed a fake smile on her lips as she waved us away. I could see it in her eyes she didn't like Blaire, even though I was dating her now for close to three months...

I sigh, as the rain starts to hammer down on the windshield. I picture little Maddy's face, as Blaire ignores her. Cheeks red and blotchy, tearing eyes.... I lock my jaw, what happened to the old Blaire?

Lightning flashes overhead with a thunderous roar and I receive a clear view of the road up ahead.  I see a car smoking on the side of the road and as I get closer the driver kicks the bonnet in anger. I smirk, and feel my eyes drawn to watch the driver closer through the rainy windshield.
