Chapter 4
Sam pov
‘I don’t know Sam…. Are you sure?’ mum placed a glass she was drying with a tea towel, back in the cupboard. ‘We could just cook something nice here, we don’t need to go out’ she assures shaking her head at the idea, walking back to the sink. ‘Mum please, we deserve this…. It’s either tonight or never. Who knows when an opportunity comes up again’ I remind, pleading with her.
She looks doubtful but nods, and smiles a small reluctant smile.
‘Thank you, trust me the girls will love it’ I hug her skinny form close to mine, feeling relieved. But angling my right hip away, not wanting to inflict more pain on it…….
Emily pov
‘Hottie eleven o’clock…’ Maggie whispers, as she passes me to the kitchen with a wink. I smile and know she means Ash. I walk between tables, as I near where he is seated. ‘What are you doing here?’ I ask, he never came here.
‘What no hello kiss?’ he asks cockily, lifting one eyebrow. I sigh. ‘Ash I can’t, I’m at work…’. He looks away to the side annoyed with me, and I quickly bend over and kiss his cheek. He smiles warmly at me now, and I ask my question again.
‘I thought we could catch a movie after your shift, in celebration and thank you’ he replies grinning up at me. I lift an eyebrow. ‘Oh yeah? What are we celebrating?’ I question teasingly.
‘Our win obviously! Last night was mad!’ he shouts, as a couple of customers turn to look at us. I swallow, thinking back to the packed grand stands and sirens blaring.
I nod slowly. ‘Yes… right. Great win’ I mutter, with less enthusiasm. To be completely honest…. I didn’t find the game all that exciting. Sure Ashton threw a couple of long passes, that got the crowd in standing…. But, I just didn’t feel it.
Ash ignores my tone of voice, and as he looks at the menu. ‘Might as well order something while I wait…’ he says more to himself, as I wait.
I turn to bring his order to the kitchen, and feel someone slap my ass. I spin around ready to smack the lights out of whoever did it, but find Ash winking at me.
Oh.
The night is slow, and I already feel the tension reach my shoulders. As I make my rounds, making sure everyone is happy and eating like there was no tomorrow. Refilling glasses, and clearing tables. But I receive a strange tug at my chest, while I’m bending over chairs to wipe the last of the tomato sauce off the table from previous customers. When my eyes are drawn to shift higher to see a familiar mop of hair, and set of strong shoulders….
My hand stills, as I observe them without being caught.
He wasn’t here with a girl. Or a group of friends. But with his family…
I don’t realise I’m smiling till I catch Sam’s gaze, and he returns it with eyebrows raised in question and slight surprise. I feel my cheeks heat, and hope I didn’t embarrass myself. I head over to his table in my waitress uniform. Which consisted of a black skirt reaching close to the knee, and a plain white shirt tucked in, as well as our navy blue apron.
‘Welcome to The Tyrant… would you like to start with drinks?’ I ask, feeling Sam’s gaze on me the whole time. ‘Could I please have an apple juice?’ a little girl with short blonde hair asks me, with green eyes like Sam’s.
