Chapter 6

Emily pov

Fresh Monday morning my mind was stressing over the broken camera in my bag, weighing my subconscious down so, that I had trouble breathing properly. Some of my thoughts consisted of things like: Oh my god, what am I going to do? It’s so embarrassing, she will want an explanation in front of the whole class. She will demand money right on the spot. In cash! Okay, breathe Emily, just breathe….. just tell the truth, and try puppy dog eyes.

‘Em!’.

I jump from fright, as I get pulled out of my thoughts. ‘Ashton?’ I question. He walks over to me and grabs my cheeks between his large football hands. My breath is stolen, and I lightly push him back. I gasp and try to smile. ‘What?’ he defends with a frown.

‘No it’s just you took me by surprise… listen I need to head to class early-‘ I begin, the nerves crawling over my skin like hairy spiders. ‘Look about Friday, I got food poisoning, nothing major…. But I do need to talk to you about Jake’ he says, cutting off my babble.

I stand there for a moment, forgetting my nerves, and jittery hands. ‘What about him?’.

Ashton looks off to the side. ‘I just think you should distance yourself from him sometimes’ he replies, looking back into my eyes. ‘What do you mean?’ I frown.

‘Is anything happening between you two?’ he asks next, which takes me so off guard I start to laugh. ‘This isn’t a laughing matter Em! Are you sleeping with him, because the way you have been acting it looks suspiciously.-‘.

‘Ash?’ I touch his arm, recovering from my giggles. ‘Jake and I are just friends. Real good friends, okay? If we are hugging or I give him a kiss on the cheek it is strictly friendly, not out of passion’ I explain, with a smile. But Ash is taking this way too seriously as he grips my hips, and pushes himself into me.

‘Listen Em, just don’t kiss his cheek anymore okay? Or anything like that… People are already thinking your cheating on me, and do you know how bad that looks on me? I’m supposed to be the famous quarter back with the hot girlfriend. Not the football star with the cheating ex’.

My mouth is slightly open as I gape at his little speech, telling me how to act around my best friend. ‘Since when do you care about what people think?’, he begins to open his mouth but it clicks. ‘Oh right, of course you do. You have a reputation to up hold. But I don’t, I don’t give a shit what they’re saying. So I’m going to act however I like around my best friend, because he is my friend…. And I don’t listen to people who think they can control me to suit themselves’ my tone comes out a little more stern then necessary but he needed to get it through his thick skull.

I’ve seen his jealous eyes as he sometimes waits to give me a ride home, as I hug Jake goodbye and others are watching. Well if he was jealous maybe he should be showing more affection towards me publicly, so people didn’t get confused who I was with.

I huff, and struggle to lose his grip on my hips.

‘Emily I was just meaning that-‘ I hold up my hand, as people started to stop in the hallways with greedy eyes. ‘Ash just talk to me later…. Okay?’. I didn’t have the time.
