Sammy's POV
When I'd gotten to Morganville 3 weeks earlier than expected, Shane had nearly frogmarched me back to Sky and driven me to Dallas. Myrnin had been the one to stop him. Apparently now I was here, I wasn't allowed to leave. Eve had automatically asked about Aria but I didn't know, I'd left as soon as I'd realised what I'd done.
But now here she was. My best friend lying unconscious on a bed she hadn't used before, blood staining her lips. If whatever Myrnin has done kills her, then he has no where to hide that I can't find him.
"Sammy, you need some sleep" Eve insisted after a while. I realised I'd been staring at Aria's sleeping form. "Oliver will be here soon, there's nothing we can do til then."
"Another Vampire. How do we know he won't make her worse? I'm not going anywhere until she's better" I said, meaning every word.
"Not all of the Vampires are bad, you know. Myrnin is usually one of the good ones, mad, but kind. Amelie is also pretty good most of the time" Claire smiled from the far end of the room.
"Yeah, the Vamps that brought them here, Claire. And Myrnin just caused whatever is happening to her" Eve snapped, her white face glowing eerily in the low light.
"For a reason! They wanted all of us to work at the University, so they needed leverage. It's up to us to keep them alive"
"Great, so I'm in the line of fire because you guys refused something. Any reason why Claire and Michael don't have people here as bait?" I growled.
"We didn't say no. I already teach music, so don't mind doing it at the Uni. Claire doesn't mind because she gets paid more than us and as Myrnins apprentice, she has to" Michael sighed, his angelic face tired and drawn.
"You work for that Nutjob? And I thought you were smart, Claire! When's help getting here?"
"It already has, Miss Collins. And might I say, you are definitely related to Shane" A tall man said straight faced, as he walked into the room. "My name is Oliver and I am second in command of Morganville." he held out his hand for me to shake but I ignored it.
"Can you help her or not?" I glared, untrusting of him.
"I will do my best, I believe Arianna received her protection bracelet, the same as you did?" I looked down at the rose gold bracelet on my wrist with the initials M.C and A.B enscripted on a small plaque.
"Myrnin ambushed me on second day, but I never got this ill. I was in a coma for two days, then coughed a bit yeah, but not to the extent of blood. If she doesn't survive this, then he will pay!" I threatened.
"You shouldn't have been ill at all, Samantha. This is rather intriguing. Let me see her bracelet." Eve carefully lifted her cousins wrist up so that he could see the identicle 'Protection'.
"It's exactly the same as mine, neither come off and the don't break. And Sammy, I hate Samantha"
"Samantha. She will be fine in a couple of days. Keep bringing her food and water, help her with basic human functions and such like. I will send for Doctor Goldman to check in on Miss Rosser twice a day."
"That's it? We sit and wait as usual? Oliver, that's the last blood relative I have!" Eve cried, her heavily lined eyes sparkling with tears that wouldn't fall.
"Eve, she is not going to die, trust me, I would be having words with the Madman myself if she was. Arianna will be fine." Oliver insisted, making me suspicious.
"Why does she matter to you anyway? Aren't we all human blood bags to Vampires? Why do you care if she lives or dies?" I demanded, causing Oliver to look at me in surprise.
