Sammy's POV.
Ok, Sam Sam, I can do this. I can go to Shane's, with my mom and tell him the full truth. He needs to know and it'll be better if he hears it from me and not Myrnin or Aria.
I sat back in my seat, dimly aware of my mothers cool gaze latching onto me. "Samantha, you don't have to do this. I can do it by myself.
"And I know exactly what he'd try to do. This is Shane, he's been trained to kill us since he was 15. You'd have to kill him as an attempted assassination and Claire would end up trying to get revenge on you by taking out the machine." I muttered, seeing exactly how it would happen, just like I used to see how my parents would hit me.
Amelies gaze stayed on me, her silvery eyes the same as mine. "And you're able to see how this plays out? Every little detail, as though looking back on a fond memory?"
I nodded, still looking out of the blacked window, just able to see the outlines of houses. "Always have been able to do that, predict things. Aria, Aria used to say we could use it to win the lottery and pay for coming here. But we got scholarships. Probably to do with the fact that were yours and Ollies daughters."
"Indeed." Mom murmured, then called out to the driver "A change of plan, take us to the cemetary first, please."
"Amelie, what are you doing? I need to talk to Shane!" I cried, twisting around to see her with her eyes closed and her hand over her mouth slightly. "Mom? Mommy, seriously, why are we going to the cemetary?"
She answered with her eyes still closed. "You wanted answers, I am now fully prepared to give them. Well, as prepared as I can be."
I stared at her as she took my hand, giving it a squeeze. "He's dead. My father is dead and buried in the cemetary." I had guessed as much, but to suddenly be told it to my face made me want to cry.
"He was dying anyway, but he, passed on, shortly before your first birthday. His name was Liam Heartman, a native of Morganville." She said, finally opening her eyes and I could see the tears she refused to let fall.
"Liam Heartman, I remember that name." I frowned, thinking back to a dream about a funeral. "The stone, it had a symbol on it." I fumbled around in my bag, looking for my sketch book. I flicked to the right page and showed her the grave I'd drawn.
"Yes, that's it. The mark is a cross between his family crest and ours, he designed it and I thought fit to put it on the grave. When did you draw this?"
"About 6 months before I came here, I remember watching the funeral from a distance and a little girl kept turning around to look at me from a womans arms."
That made her smile slightly. "Yes, you did keep looking behind me, I eventually had to give you to Myrnin to hold because you always fell asleep in his arms. You're wondering how you know these things and what this has to do with your dad."
"I already know what I am. A psychic Vampire." The car pulled to a stop and the door was opened on both sides. "Wow, this cemetary is beautiful." It truly was, with well kept grass and apple trees every hundred metres. "Why apples?"
"Apples are the fruit of the dead. In my time, people were buried holding one and a boline, a sacrificial knife. You have the one I was to be buried with if I had died." Amelie said, standing beside me as we looked across the field.
On instinct, my hand went to the black and red veined blade that I now kept at my hip, the cool metal soothing my thumping heart. "Thank you. We don't have to do this either, you can tell me bits and pieces or we can wait til I see it for myself."
"No, this needs to be done. You've waited long enough. Charlotte, Phillip, stay here, you'll not be needed."
"Ma'am, I don't think that wise, with Naomi-" Charlie tried to protest, but the look mom gave her, she closed her mouth and got back inside the car.
