Missed Calls

Charlie was not wrong when she thought that Dean was going to wake up with a splitting headache, but he also had, a very dry mouth. He leans over to grab the glass of water on the dresser and tips it over, he groans and feels around to see if there is anything else he could drink. His hand touches paper, and he grips it and pulls it close to his face. The strip of stickiness on the back tells him that it's a post-it note, and after his eyes manage to focus, he reads it. 'Would you lie with me and just forget the world?" Remembering the events of the previous night, he blushes slightly, sighs and puts the note under his pillow, and falls back asleep.
Charlie comes in to wake him up an hour later, as Dean roles over onto his back and rubs his eyes. Charlie grins, "How ya feeling," she says it in almost a mock flirtatious way, her grin never leaving her face. He musters a small chuckle, and looks at her. "Great." He says it quietly.
"What can you remember from last night."
He looks at her.
"More than you'd expect. Including the amount of noise you and Jo we're making." Charlie blushes noticeably,
"She hasn't called."
"Give her chance, it's only what? 10?"
"Dean, its three in the afternoon."
"Oh."
"So. Did you get laid?" He shakes his head.
"At least I don't think I did."
"You and Castiel looked close." She approached it cautiously.  "Was there, erm, anything there."
"Charlie. We've been through this. I'm not remotely gay." She looks at him and he looks into her eyes.
"Okay, if you insist,"
"Yeah, I do." Charlie nods, and they don't talk until a phone rings. Charlie whips hers out of her pocket, and exhales as she realises it wasn't hers. It was Dean's. He looks at it and answers, it's an unknown number. A frantic female voice he doesn't recognise is on the other side. "Hello. OhmyGod! Is this Dean?! Dean Winchester?! Oh God! Please say it is!"
"Yeah, its Dean, who is this?"
"It's Jo. Charlie's, erm, friend." He pulls the phone away from his ear, frowning. He addresses Charlie. "It's Jo."
"OhmyGod! Gimme the phone.  Actually no you talk to her."
He puts the phone back to his ear. "Hey, Jo, erm, how you doing?"
"Does Charlie hate me? She hates me doesn't she?!" Before Dean can answer she continues, "I left my phone at Gabe's and when I'd gone back to get it, if had smashed. Castiel was the only one in, and he'd lost his phone, but he gave me Charlie's number from Gabe's address book, and I had to find a pay phone." She doesn't pause throughout, and Dean speaks while he has the chance.
"Jo, slow down. I'll tell her." He repeats what Jo told him to Charlie, who reluctantly reaches out to grab the phone.
All seems to have been rectified when Charlie returns with the phone, "it kept ringing while I was on it by the way." Dean nods and looks at the call log. Four calls from an unknown number, he goes to ring it back when Sam calls. The first thing Dean hears is sirens in the background, he immediately stands up and almost shouts down the phone. "Sammy! You there?! Answer me! Are you okay?!"
"Yeah, Dean I'm fine. I need you to come get me." His voice is shaky, which worries Dean,
"What's happened?" Deans asks putting his clothes on.
"We were on Ashley's yard, and he went in to check the food, and then we stared smelling smoke, and we looked and the house was on fire, Ashley was shouting that he couldn't get out, he was the only one in there. Toyah called the fire department. He climbed to the roof because that was the only place that he could get to, he tried to climb down, but he slipped, I don't know if he's okay but the ambulance, police and fire department are here."
"Alright, just hang on Sam, I'm on my way." He takes the phone away from his ear. "Charlie! Car keys?!" Charlie comes out of the kitchen and sees the worried look on Dean's face. "I'll explain on the way."
It takes 10 minutes to get there, and when they do, the house is almost completely burnt to the ground. Dean looks around, and sees Sam sat on the grass, Sam looks round, and when he sees Dean, he gets up and runs to him, Dean meets Sam, and hugs him tightly, when they break apart Sam looks Dean in the eye, and Dean immediately realised that Ashley didn't make it. Dean takes Sam to the car and Charlie checks that they're okay to leave. She offers to drive, and Dean sits in the backseat with Sammy, and puts his arm around him. They remain like this for the journey back, and when they get out of the car, Dean sees Castiel on the doorstep. Charlie escorts Sam inside to let Dean talk to Castiel. "Hi," Deans voice is gruff.
"Er, hi," Castiel seems to be a lot more awkward than Dean had remembered him from the night before. "I tried to call." The realisation hits Dean like a ton of bricks.
"Oh! That was you!" Castiel nods. "I'm so sorry! I was asleep until about three, and when I woke up, I got a call from Jo, then I saw the missed calls from you, and was about to call back when I got a call from Sam, asking me to get him. I'm so sorry," Castiel chuckles slightly.
"Dean, it's totally fine. I get it. I heard about that fire. Did Sam know that guy?" Dean nods.
"Best friends."
"Oh no. I'm sorry. Sorry for coming, I'm just going to go. " he starts to leave, when Dean calls him back,
"Why don't you come in. Charlie's ordering some pizza." Castiel reluctantly agrees and follows Dean in the house. Offering Sam an apology and a hello, and Charlie, a simple 'hi,' Castiel sits on the couch next to Charlie and Dean sitting on the floor, leaning against the second couch, flicks through the channels. They find a channel doing a marathon of The Hunger Games, so they put that on. The first one started at five, so they'd missed the first half an hour or so, but they watched it anyway. They finished the pizza and after the first movie, raided John's alcohol, Dean shared it out, and told Sam not to tell anyone. There wasn't an awful lot in, definitely not enough to get drunk. By the end of the third movie it was about 12:30, and Sam and Charlie decided to go to bed, leaving Castiel and Dean alone, after Castiel realised the time he decided it was time for him to be going home, "stay," says Dean quietly to him. "I mean, you can stay here if you want," Castiel agrees and sits next to Dean as they watch the final movie.
By the end of the movie, Castiel has fallen asleep, his head, fallen so it rests on Dean's shoulder. He watches Castiel and realises how young he looks when he sleeps. Dean hates to wake him, but he wouldn't have been able to get him to the spare room on his own. He nudges him gently. "Castiel?" Castiel murmurs and moves slightly, "c'mon, you need to go to bed," Castiel wakes up and looks Dean in the eye.
"I didn't want to wake you. You looked so peaceful,"
"I was dreaming about you," Dean blushes noticeably, and coughs to try and hide it.
"Creepy." Dean tries to sound cool, but doesn't quite manage it. He smiles timidly, as he shows Castiel to his room.
