The doctors and nurses flood in. Dean doesn't pay any attention to them. Only to his dead lover. They could've started over. Together. He feels himself screaming.
"No! No! I'm not leaving him! I'm never leaving him." He feels the doctors firm hand on his shoulder trying to pull him away.
"Sir we need the body."
"No! I need him! I need him!" They decide to leave him alone to calm down. They leave him with Cas. Dean clinging onto the lifeless body. He doesn't know how long he's been there, but he feels Sam's hands on his shoulders. He knows they're Sam's hands. They're firm and gentle at the same time. He is a reluctant mess when he turns to face Sam, seeing his brothers face hurts him even more. Sam sees the pain in Dean's eyes and puts his arms around him, Dean sobs into his chest while Sam makes an attempt to guide his brother into the hall. Sam sits on the couch and brings Dean close to him. Dean, still sobbing uncontrollably, is pulled next to his brother, into his muscular frame. Sam shushes his brother in a comforting manner. They sit this way until Cas' body is brought out, at which Dean falls to his knees on the floor with his head in his hands. A new set of arms wrap around him like a vice and his fathers' cologne becomes apparent, he starts crying all over again. Mary joins in the hug stroking her sons back.
It's a good four hours before they move, Sam driving Dean back to his in silence, Jo and Charlie will be meeting them there and will be staying in the other spare room for a while, rather than going home. Charlie envelopes her silent best friend in a tight hug. Crying into his shoulder.
"I'm sorry Dean." Sam guides Dean to the kitchen and Dean sits silently on one of the chairs. Drinking the whiskey Sam gave him, and thinking about what could have been.

The funeral is a couple of weeks later. Sam and Dean organise it. Playing Chasing Cars as they bring in the coffin, the ceremony isn't that religious, Cas wasn't and neither is Dean. Not any more. They invite Dean and Sam's family, including Bobby, Ellen and Jo. They invite that guy from Yale. Crowley. And they invite Cas' family. Well, all of them except Lucifer. Gabriel and Cas' father show up. That's it. Other than Crowley and Dean's family. Cas' father is sympathetic toward Dean, they hadn't seen Cas since he left all those years ago. He never even called them.
During the wake, Crowley tells Dean what Yale was like with Cas. They'd had a short fling. Only short though. Crowley talks about how Cas didn't even finish the four years. Six months. That's how long he stayed. Apparently he thought of nothing but Dean the whole time. He constantly told Crowley how much he'd regretted everything he'd said to Dean that day.

It was a while before Dean was happy again. He moved back into his own house with Charlie and Jo as his housemates. He went back to work at the law firm.
It wasn't until 5 years later, that he became truly happy, he adopted a beautiful daughter, and named her the name he thought Cas would appreciate the most. Claire. He loved that name. And Dean loved Cas. She soon became Dean's way of remembering Castiel Novak.
Sam was the only one he ever told about the dream he had in that hospital room. In fact, adoption was Sam's idea, he suggested that Dean adopt a baby boy and name him Tobias, like their other child in his dream. But Dean decided that he wanted a daughter, that he could give Cas' favourite name to. Claire Cass Winchester. She'd grow up knowing what a brilliant person Castiel was, and how, their summer together had changed Dean's life, forever. He'd play their song to her, and she would grow up treasuring the words.
'If I lay here, if I just lay here, would you lie with me and just forget the world.'
Okay guyss. I know this chapter is a lot shorter than the rest, but I thought that would be the best place to end. This is the only fic I've ever managed to complete so partay. Let me know what you think and just tell me if you think I should add something.
I'm going to start a new fic, the first couple of chapters will be up in a couple of days hopefully. Thanks for the views and love. Again, sorry for the shorter chapter, I just feel as though adding anything more would be desperate. Thanks again xx
