"What?!"
"Don't get pissed."
"What?!"
"Cas."
"You tell me that you're not coming back to college and all you can say is 'don't be pissed.' Dean this is your life."
"I don't need a degree. There are other jobs."
"No! No! You're not throwing this away." Dean stands and musters up the courage to say,
"Throwing what away?! A useless degree, that I won't need, and I'll forget about six months later." Cas stands up so they are looking each other directly in each other's eyes. Dean almost melts at the bright blue eyes piercing into him, but manages to keep his cool. Cas is the next to speak.
"What about me."
"What?"
"You're just gonna stay here and abandon me?" Dean considers this for a moment, but only a moment.
"But if I go with you, I'll be abandoning him."
"What? He has your mom, and your dad, and Jess and Bobby. He can live a decent life without you by his side constantly Dean!" The annoyed tone seemed to anger Dean greatly.
"Are you saying that I don't matter, as long as he has the others?"
"Maybe I am." Cas regrets it straight away but realises that he can't go back on what he's said.
"Oh well. If I don't matter, then surely, you wouldn't give a shit, if I came to Yale or not!"
"I want you to come to Yale."
"Yeah well I don't wanna come!" Something inside Dean snaps, and he is suddenly angry at Cas and he doesn't quite know why, "I don't want to come Cas. I don't wanna go back to Yale. I don't care if your there okay?! I just don't care. You can go back! I'm not gonna stop you. But if you walk out that door now, don't expect to be welcomed back with open arms!" Cas is taken aback by this and the audience that has formed causes his face to go red.
"Are you breaking up with me?"
"Maybe I am!" Now it's Cas' turn to be angry.
"You know what?! I don't know why I even bothered with you. You were just a pathetic loser that turned up at my party, hoping to get laid. I felt sorry for you! Y'know what, I don't know why I even bothered with you! You're a lonely little dick!" Dean flips and slaps Cas around the side of the face, Cas just looks at him. Tears appear in both boys eyes. "Fine. Okay Dean. If you don't want me. I'm done." Cas turns around and storms out of the hospital, slamming doors after him. Dean sits on a couch with his head in his hands and Charlie sits next to him and envelopes him in a hug. She whispers in his ear.
"I'm not going back either." He looks up at her tears in both of their eyes.
"You don't have to stay." She smiles.
"I never liked the idea of college." He smiles back.
Dean doesn't see Cas for a while after that. After Cas went back go Yale Dean heard from none of the Novak family. A week later after Sam was sent home, Dean and Charlie went job hunting. It didn't take long to find something, a new computing company had opened on 34th and they both managed to land a decent paid job in tech support.
Six months later, they decide to go out for a meal to celebrate John's birthday, they go to an all you can eat buffet, and they see Lucifer. "Oh hey Dean." Dean tries to avoid conversation, instead Charlie answers.
"Go away," Lucifer pretends to look hurt.
"Ouch. Oh and how about no."
"Why are you even doing here."
"Dunno. Just wanted to congratulate Dean, on finding out that being gay isn't all it's cracked up to be." Sam is next to speak.
"Meaning."
"Well, just cause there aren't any lady parts involved, that doesn't make it easier to love someone."
John stands.
"Look. I want you to go. We don't want your screwed up family anymore. You've blown it." That seemed to hit Lucifer.
"Screwed up? Well at least we don't have two queers in one house." He looks at Jess. "And to be honest honey, I wouldn't hold out much hope, he's probably gonna swing the same way as his brother." John loses it then. He swings a punch that lands right on Lucifer's nose.
That's the first time Dean had ever been chucked out of somewhere before. John refused to pay the bill, so they got a lot of free food.
When they get home Charlie follows Dean to his room.
"He shouldn't have brought Cas up like that."
"Yeah. Charlie. Answer me honestly here."
"Dean what is it?"
"Am I ever gonna forget Cas?" She seems taken aback by the question. She looks at Dean.
"Give it more time, then, yeah."
"Okay." Charlie looks at him. They sit in the window pane with one leg outside in the dark night. The breeze on Charlie's bare legs and Dean's covered ones. They sit in silence staring into the black. After around 10 minutes sat like this Dean looks back at Charlie and speaks again. "Charlie." She looks at him in way of reply. "Will I ever stop loving him?"
