The next morning is extremely hectic, people running around setting tables, John trying to get people to watch his speech and most people refusing. Dean running around manically giving Robyn to different people to hold, for a moment while he did something else. Charlie admiring the beauty of the reception hall, and planning routes from the hotel to the church and then back to the hotel for the reception. Mary constantly kissing Sam, and noting how happy she is for the happy couple. And Bobby, getting stressed over all the busy moving and having a glass of whiskey every 30 minutes.
By the time it got to midday, the preparations were as ready as they were likely to ever be. So Charlie takes Jess and Robyn to Charlie's hotel room to get her ready, while Bobby and Dean take Sam to Dean's, to get him ready. John and Mary, go to get the cars sorted and cover them in decorations. Sam has a light grey suit with a waistcoat and a pale yellow corsage, while Dean, John and Bobby had matching black suits.
The men get to the church first, and take their positions, Mary in a light green dress reaching her knees. It only takes a few minutes for the precession to go quiet as Total Eclipse of the Heart begins. Charlie wearing a majestic pink dress walks in first holding Robyn, who has been dressed in a tulle lilac dress and a cute little headdress. Then Jess follows them in. She wears a classic white dress with long lacy sleeves, and a mermaid style bottom. It has a long trail and a tiara accompanying. She looks beautiful, that's what everyone thought. A tear appears in Dean's eye as he notes his lucky Sam truly is.
The service goes without a hitch, and it doesn't seem like a long time before they are heading back to the hotel for the reception. Cas never showed. No one expected him to. The reception hall was decorated beautifully. With the standard long table at the back, where Jess and her family would be sat in one side, and Sam, Dean, John and Mary and the other side, with Robyn next to Dean and Sam. John's speech goes fairly well to say no one wanted to hear him before. Everyone tears up during Sam's speech, as he talks about the time he almost died. Dean gets emotional at the recalled memory.
The first dance is just as emotional as the speeches. All of the guests stand up and surround the dance floor while Sam and Jess wait for the song to start. Dean listens to the lyrics. 'If I lay here, if I Just Lay Here, would you lie with me and just forget the world.' He closes his eyes and remembers the party he went to on the last day before summer. He remembers Castiel's hand on his back. At this point Castiel was a mystery to him, with a strange name, who would rather lie on the artificial grass, with a boy who could barely make it through five rum and cokes. He thinks of the frantic look on his new friends' face as he watched him throwing his drinks back up. He remembers the way that they helped him home and lowered him onto his bed after whispering with Charlie to avoid waking him. He remembers all of it vividly, despite his state. And they are the best memories a man could have. The song finishes, and Dean, snaps out of his trance and applauds. Other couples start to take to the floor, and the music gets better and better through the course of the night, but that might have been the amount of alcohol he's consuming. He stops after four though. He doesn't want to risk the fifth. Not after last time. He doesn't dance, there's no one he can dance with. Charlie pulls him up at around half past midnight however, they dance to 'Sweet Home Alabama' by Lynyrd Skynyrd well if it could be called dancing. Charlie's attempts at twerking are probably breaking every law there is. Dean stays up until the end of the reception and is one of the last to go back to his room, John and Mary have Robyn tonight so he creeps past the room he thinks they're staying in. It's three in the morning when he gets back, he takes his jacket off and hangs it back up, his waistcoat is placed in the back of a chair, he'll have forgotten by the morning. He takes his shirt and bow tie off and they both end up on the floor. He doesn't take his undershirt off, even though it smells of sweat, he can't be bothered to change it. His trousers are thrown on top of his closet. He doesn't think about how hard this'll be to find come the morning. He tries to get through his Facebook feed, but honestly doesn't have any clue what the point of it is. He puts his Spotify playlist on but doesn't pay attention to what he's listening to. It just washes over him. His recommended section on YouTube is very strange. As YouTube is something he only uses when he's drunk. He falls asleep with his phone on his chest.
He ignores the sense of deja vu brought about by his hangover headache. And stumbles around in the dark for his clothes that he scattered around early this morning. The doors to the balcony have been open all night, it must not be much after 5 because of the pitch blackness that is still streaming into the room. He doesn't see the point in going back to sleep, he pours himself a black coffee, and starts contemplating whether he should drive to get a burger, instead of the posh hotel food. He stuffs all of his things into his bag and takes it down to his car. He takes a walk to the 24 hour burger bar and buys a cheeseburger. He realises that he doesn't have his phone, and after walking around Palm Springs for an hour and slowly heads back to the hotel, just as it starts to get light. As he gets back to his room, his phone is ringing, he has 12 missed calls from an unknown number, he answers it, a woman's voice talks to him.
"Is this Dean Winchester?"
"Er, yeah. Who's, who's this?"
"Hi. This is Angela from Palm Springs General. We've got you down as Castiel Novak's next of kin," Dean frowns curiously. "Erm, we need you to come in."
"Why?"
"We can't say much except that Mr Novak has been shot, and it's not good." Dean drops the phone and scribbles a rough note to post under Sam's door. He gets in his car and speeds to see Cas.
