CHAPTER THREE
"He might very well be the last of his kind."

Toothless was curled up beside the bed that Hiccup was laying on. He let out a puff of smoke through his nostrils, indicating boredom. His ears perked up at the sound of Hiccup's voice.
"Did they take care of you well? I was very worried. They may have other dragons, but how could they know how to take care or a Night Fury? You may very well be the last of your kind." Hiccup exclaimed, throwing his hands into the air. Toothless smiled at him, trying to show that he was okay. They did take care of him very well. Hiccup returned the gesture and scratched his dragon on the neck a few times before trying to take a short nap.
All of Berk was in a frenzy, especially Valka, who took over as chief for the time being. Astrid had talked to every viking on the island, only Bucket having a clue of where he may have went. Astrid cursed herself for not listening to Hiccup about Itchy Armpit and it's location. She searched everywhere she could, but Stormfly was dead tired by the end of the day and could not go any farther.
"Astrid, honey, how about you stay here for the night and Cloudjumper and I will go searching?" Valka suggested to her. Astrid was too tired to walk back home, so instead, she nodded and climbed up the stairs to Hiccup's room. She settled herself in his bed, breathing in his scent. Stormfly was snuggled on the ground beside her, already snoring. Shortly after, Astrid found herself snoring as well.
Valka went outside the home to see Cloudjumper sleeping outside. She smiled at her dragon and gently woke him up. As if he could read her mind, he got himself ready to take off and they were soon in the sky. They flew around the Itchy Armpit area, but saw no sign of Valka's boy. She flew over the ocean for quite the period of time before coming up to Drakkaey. She knew that if Hiccup came near Drakkaey, he was a prisoner until Alva made her decision on what to do with him. Valka knew Alva would never hurt Hiccup, but she was nervous about him staying a prisoner. If that were to be the case, a war would break out between the two islands, and Valka knew that Drakkaey had the upperhand over Berk. Even more so now that there alphas were gone. She hoped that Hiccup stayed honest with the chief of Drakkaey, knowing it was the easiest way to get out of there quickly. She huffed, knowing it was unsafe to travel further to Drakkaey, and turned back.
Back on Drakkaey, Hiccup stayed in the cell until the following afternoon. It had then reached 48 hours since he first left Berk, and he knew his tribe would be in a panic. He was brought towards Alva again, remembering to bow.
"Hiccup, chief of Berk, I have decided to set you free on terms of a deal. Would you like to hear it?" She sat with confidence and pride of her tribe, the Prevailers. Hiccup thought that the name suited them well. They were quite the dominant vikings and seemed to have some type of power over each tribe, though Hiccup still could not figure out what that domination was.
"I would, please." Hiccup responded to her with respect.
"I will let you and your dragon free, given that you protect our island. By that, I mean you do not expose us to anyone else on your island or neighbouring islands. Only the chief of the tribes may know who we are, and fear us. If anyone else on Berk finds out, we will come with an army on hand." She offered the very tempting deal to Hiccup.
"I swear, I will not tell a soul." Hiccup promised her. "May I know why you are to be feared?" He asked her with hope.
She looked at him with a glare glistening in her eyes. "You will find out at the next chief meeting. Do you know when and where that is?"
"I do not." Hiccup confessed to her. "I was never informed of this."
"We hold it on an unclaimed island just a bit farther North Berk. It will be on this day, next month. Be there or there will be consequences." She warned him and sent him off again.
The guards lead Hiccup through a tunnel, the tunnel would take them to the take off spot for visitors. It was at the very tip of the island, as far south as possible. Hiccup mounted Toothless, wondering why they couldn't leave outdoors, but shook it off.
"You will have two walls leading you out of our territory, do not go over them or you will be shot down once again." The guard told Hiccup, pointing at the wooden walls. Hiccup nodded his head, showing that he understood, and took off on his dragon's back.
Hiccup and Toothless flew through the crisp air, though Hiccup could not stop thinking about what had happened on Drakkaey. He had never even heard of the island, yet now they were suddenly the most powerful group in the Barbaric archipelago.
Once they landed back on Berk, the entire island erupted in cheers. Soon enough, the young chief was bombarded with questions. He tried to calm the crowd down but it was no use. Toothless noticed his struggle and shot a plasma blast into the air. The crowd quieted down and let Hiccup talk.
"I will be answering questions tomorrow morning at the hall, but for now, I want you all to know that we are fine. We came across a bump in the road, but it is fine." Hiccup reassured the Hooligans and walked towards Astrid.
"You have no idea how much I've missed you!" Astrid squealed and hugged her boyfriend tightly.
"I've missed you too, but I really need a proper rest. Is that okay? I'll see you tomorrow." Hiccup broke the hug and walked with his mother back to their house.
"So what happened?" Valka asked her son.
"I can't tell you, mom. I was sworn in a contract to not mention it to anyone." Hiccup apologized to his mom.
Valka's eyes widened, realizing that her instincts were correct. "The Prevailer tribe get to you?" She tried to joke with Hiccup.
"How do you know about them?" Hiccup was astonished.
"I was brought down a few years back and was forced to make the same deal as you. Did you ever find out why they're so dominant? What their secret is?" She asked him.
Hiccup shook his head no. "But I'll be finding out next month." He answered his mom.
"Then I'll let you stay curious until next month, shouldn't ruin the surprise." Valka laughed at her son, she had found out their secret weapon, or weapons, when she was brought down. She told them about her secret weapon, the Bewilderbeast, and Alva told Valka their's. Once they reached their home, they separated to go to their own rooms and both quickly fell fast asleep, their dragons by their sides.
