1 month later...
Sarah walked down the hallway of her high school, Cornery STEM School. She was having trouble getting all of her books into her backpack without them spilling out. Of course, nobody helped her. Cool kids never helped out anyone lesser than themselves.
She made a final attempt to get everything in there, and it succeeded. She burst into a sprint and made it to Science class just in time for the bell.
"Close call again, Ms. Lang?" Her 9th grade Science professor, Mr. Gosbix, said in a dull manor. Sarah put her head down and quickly made her way into her seat. "Now, class," Mr. Gosbix started, "We will be talking about molecular structures today."
Sarah put her head into her hands. She had been dreading this part of the class since her dad... left... in a way. She raised her hand, asked to use the restroom, and walked out.
She paced through the hallways, mumbling to herself, "He'll come back. I can help him come home. Cassie won't be alone anymore. Please, come back." She sat down in front of her locker and began to cry, remembering that day like it was yesterday...
Flashback:
Sarah walked up into Cassie's room with her backpack on, ready to go into her room and finish her homework. Cassie was playing with her Thomas the Tank Engine set. Cassie looked up and hugged Sarah.
"Hey, Cassie," Sarah said, "it's time for bed." Cassie gave her a pouty lip and Sarah rubbed her head. "I'm sorry, but Mom sent me up to tell you." Cassie still pouted. Sarah rolled her eyes. "Fine, one story." She kissed her on the forehead and tucked her in.
"Hey, kids," a voice from behind said, "Why don't I tell you a story?" I turned and saw a man in all yellow metal suit with legs. His face was covered in a mask, so I couldn't tell who it was.
"Who are you?" Sarah asked angrily, protecting Cassie. Cassie was shaking against Sarah's tight grip.
"I'm just a friend of your dad." He pulled off his mask to reveal his face. He was Darren Cross, Hank Pym's apprentice, and now, the CEO of Cross Technologies. "Tell me. Where is he?"
Sarah went even closer to Cassie. "He's not here. And you shouldn't be, either."
Cross laughed. "Oh, well. I guess he'll come home faster for you two, right?" He charged up his blasters for full blow and left them there to scare the kids.
"I want Daddy." Cassie whispered to Sarah.
"I know you do," Sarah responded, "but I don't know where Daddy is. Now, here's what you need to do. Listen to me very carefully."
"Shut up!" Cross yelled.
Sarah started walking towards Cross. "Why do you want my dad so much?"
Cross answered, "You must know about his suit, right?" Sarah shook her head. "Well, I am his superior. I have a greater suit, I am smarter, I--" Sarah punched Cross straight into the jaw with an uppercut. He fell backwards and groaned, dazed and confused.
Sarah turned to Cassie. "Run!" Sarah yelled. Cassie shot up from her bed and ran straight to the door. She almost reached it when their mother swung it open, hitting Cassie in the head.
"What is going on up-- WHAT?!" Mrs. Lang jumped, grabbed Cassie, and headed over to get Sarah.
Of, course, Cross woke up at the wrong time. He fired a shot at the mother, who accidentally dropped Cassie. She tried to get to her children again, but Cross shot at the top of the door frame, causing rubble to fall all across the entryway. The kids could hear their mother screaming, "I'll get the cops," and she ran outside with a phone dialing 9-1-1 with shaky hands.
