Sarah's head became very heavy as she continued to grow to normal size. Man, if this doesn't give her a concussion sooner or later, nothing will. She took a deep breath. Let's hope this works...
The jolt of returning to normal size caused Sarah to stumble and fall down. Hands touched her back and helped her up. Sarah thought, for a split second, that it was her family and friends.
Unfortunately, it was simply Darron's body guards making her stand on her feet, arms clasped together behind her back and hands grabbing onto her shoulder so she couldn't escape.
Sarah looked around to see her family and friends still in the corner, three body guards holding guns to their heads. She looked down to see Hank still having trouble keeping a steady breathing rhythm. How long was she down there? Hopefully not long, or Hank was in more trouble than she had expected.
She heard a computer close to her left, and she turned to see Darron walking up to her. He motioned something to the guards, and they let go of Sarah, but not without removing her gloves first so she couldn't shrink down again.
Darron just stood there, staring into Sarah's eyes as if he could see what she was thinking. Sarah simply kept a steady rhythm to her breathing to hide the fact that Darron terrified her.
Without any warning, Darron ripped off Sarah's helmet and held her up by the collar of her suit. His eyes were lasers chilling Sarah to the core. In a low angry voice, he asked through the grit of his teeth, "Where's Scott?"
Sarah hesitated, but responded. "I couldn't find him. He wasn't there." He didn't not even flinch, Sarah thought for a second that he was not breathing anymore. Sarah heard a small gasp come from her family, mainly Cassie. Sarah knew that Cassie wanted him back so badly. She glanced at Cassie to see her almost crying at the news. Sarah felt so bad for saying it, but she knew what she was doing. She added on, "Darron, with going as small as subatomic, any inch off from the original location in the real world could mean a mile's difference down there."
Again, he just stared. It was only after 10 seconds did Sarah hear him breathing again. He dropped her as his body guards kept her in place. Sarah glanced back over at everyone who was staring either at her or at the ground, unable to speak. Hank's breathing had steadied a bit, which was good. However, the wound was still growing. Hope was applying pressure onto the wound while staring at Sarah with watery eyes.
"No."
Sarah turned to Darron, who was looking at his computer. He furiously typed something in before glaring up at Sarah. "I didn't make a mistake. I took what Cassie told me and footage from my suit and found the exact place that Scott was at. My math isn't wrong." He slammed his computer closed again, causing Sarah to flinch at the harshness of it. Darron slowly walked closer to Sarah; she took a step back. "Now," he said slowly, still walking towards a backing Sarah, "I'm going to ask you this one more time." Sarah was now at the wall, unable to escape from Darron's menacing glare. He pulled out his gun and pointed the end to Sarah's forehead. "Where... is... Scott?"
Sarah gulped and darted her eyes between the gun and Darron. She had no idea what to do. If she lied again, she would be dead, or worse, everyone else would die. If she told the truth, her dad would die.
Then, an idea hit her. It wasn't a good idea, but it was what she needed to do at the moment.
"You don't need him."
Darron coiled back in confusion. "What?"
Sarah sighed, regretting was she was about to say. "You don't need my dad anymore because... you can take my exposure to the particles."
There was a unanimous, "NO," from her family and friends, but Darron didn't seem fazed by it. He still stared at Sarah, but with a surprised look. Eventually, Darron lowered his gun and grabbed Sarah's arm, dragging her back to the circle.
"Fine," Darron said, "if that is the only way to get it, then so be it." He grabbed an object from the desk where the computer and brought it over to Sarah, grasping her wrists. As he placed them on her wrists, she realized they were like handcuffs, but they were connected directly to what seemed like one of those scream cans from Monster's Inc.
Sarah began to get nervous. Come one, dad, Sarah thought, any time now.
Darron typed a few things into the computer before turning to Sarah. "Any final words?"
Sarah looked at her friends and family as all of them had tears in their eyes. Cassie was full-blown crying into her mom's shirt. Hope looked like she was ready to murder Darron. Sarah didn't know what to say. She thought all hope was lost.
Then, she saw a shadow on the wall. It was small, but it was blatantly obvious to Sarah. It was a small man.
Scott.
Finally, Sarah thought he'd never get here!
Darron noticed Sarah's stare at the wall, so he turned to see what it was. Scott disappeared back into the shadows, leaving Darron to stare oddly at a blank wall. Darron turned back to Sarah before saying, "I guess no words, then? Very well." He placed a finger over the "Enter" key and said, "Goodbye, Sarah."
Everyone began to shout, pleading Darron to stop.
But, it was too late.
Darron pressed the key.
Cliffhangers, gotta love 'em.
Just gotta say thank you so much for 1,000 reads! That is so much more than I could have ever expected from my book, so thank you! And until next time!
