Sarah slowly woke up.  There was a bright light above her, causing her to shield her eyes. Ever so slowly, she sat up and adjusted to her surroundings. Everything around her seemed to be some sort of tint of white, so bright and glaring to the eye. As she adjusted, she could see people around her, but she couldn't make out who was.

Well, until she heard someone speak.

"Sarah!"

A little voice that Sarah could never forget: Cassie.

She eventually began to recognize people; her dad and Cassie, her mom and step-dad, and Hope and Hank. They stood around her bed smiling from ear to ear. Cassie leaped onto Sarah and wrapped her in a tight hug. Sarah laughed and returned the favor.

It only lasted a few seconds, though. She felt a pain shoot through her left arm. She hissed a little at the pain, giving Cassie the sign to loosen up the hug. Cassie climbed off of her with a worried look.

Sarah looked down at her arm to see an IV with some kind of fluid flowing into her, more than likely anesthesia. She looked back at Cassie with a small smile and told her, "You're fine, Cassie. Just... unexpected." Cassie gave a reassuring smile back before the adults began to talk.

Questions came flying at her. "Are you okay?" "Are you hurt at all?" "What happened?" "How are you feeling right now?" "What is the last thing you remember?"

"Guys," Sarah interrupted with a chuckle, "please, one at a time. My ears are still ringing."

They looked at each other and let Scott go first. "Sarah," Scott asked, "How are you feeling?"

She half-smiled and said, "Weird, but okay." She asked a question of her own: "Why am I here?"

Hank took the lead on this one. "When you collapsed in Cassie's room, the backup your stepfather had called arrived and took you here, to the hospital. Turns out, the subatomic transfer you went through gave Darron enough to live a few more decades. However, your... your body was decaying rapidly. Your heart even stopped for fifteen minutes."

Sarah looked between everyone with fear in her eyes, and she could see the fear in theirs as well. Hank continued rehashing the events.

"They were able to restart your heart with the defibrillators. In doing so, it began to heal some of Darron's dying subatomic energy. So, the doctors would come in every six hours and give your body a shock strong enough to continue the healing process while doing no damage to  your organs and internal systems."

Hope added, "You are going to have one mean scar on your side, though."

Curious, Sarah lifted up her shirt to see, as Hope put it, a "mean scar" on her side. It looked like someone had tried to knife her, but after a year, the scar was still there.

"Eventually," Hank finished, "Your energy was healed and perfectly healthy. All they had to do was wait for you to wake up for a final checkup."

Sarah smiled. She couldn't believe it; the doctors were able to find a way to save her!

Her smile quickly lowered, however, when she asked, "How long was I out?"

Scott sighed and answered, "Eight days."

It took Sarah back a bit. Eight days? How long had they been at the bed, waiting for her to wake up? How long did the doctors need the continue the healing process before she was considered stable?

She shook it off. That was not the most important thing right now.

Right now, everyone was happy.

Right now, everyone was healthy and safe.

Right now, her family was back together again.

Right now, everything was okay.
