Nothing.
There was no pain, no scream, nothing at all.
Nothing had happened to Sarah.
Sarah looked over at Darron, who was looking between his computer and Sarah rapidly. He tried again.
No luck.
He slammed the keyboard, trying any way he possibly could to launch the program.
Now was Sarah's time to escape. She looked at one of the bodyguards near her and saw his gun. Perfect! She could use that to free everyone else!
Everyone else...
There was no way she could save them, not even with stealing the bodyguard's guns. The other bodyguards standing watch of her family and friends would have them dead in an instant.
So, she stood still, hoping things were going to plan.
And they were, indeed.
One of the body guards with a gun pointed at the group suddenly dropped to the ground. The other guard looked over in distress before turning his head as though he had been punched, falling to the ground.
Now was her chance. Sarah grabbed the gun from the body guard closest to her and hit them over the head with the butt of the gun. She wasn't about to kill someone; that just wasn't who she was.
But, she couldn't reach further than that. Her hands were still cuffed to the machine.
An odd noise came from beside Darron. Both Sarah and Darron turned to see someone grow to normal size.
Scott.
Without hesitation, Scott threw a cross-hook right at Darron's jaw, knocking him out cold.
Scott took off his helmet, set it down, and shut down the program Sarah was connected to. Automatically, the cuffs unlocked and dropped to the ground.
"DAD!" Cassie yelled, tears of joy pouring out of her eyes. She bolted to Scott, squeezing him to a point that Sarah thought he was going to explode. Scott laughed and hugged Cassie back. Sarah quickly ran over and joined in the group hug. For the first time in what felt like forever, their family was back together again.
Sarah's mom stepped forward and asked, "How are you here?"
Scott looked over at her, not letting go of his children. "Sarah gave me a growing disk and told me to stop growing by ant size. And, thanks to the help from some ants," he pointed at his ear, referring to the earpiece used to control the ants, "they traveled to below the Enter key, stopping Darron from killing Sarah."
Sarah smiled even wider. It all went according to plan. Her father was back, Cassie was safe, and the family was back together again. Now, all they needed was to get Hank to a hospital, and all would be back to normal.
"You're making a huge mistake."
Everyone turned to see Darron slowly standing up, leaning on the desk with the computer on it for support. His lip was split open, and he had a knot on his head. Scott put his arms in front of Cassie, and Sarah put her arm in front of Scott. After just getting back, he was not about to lose his daughters, but Sarah was not about to lose her dad.
"It's over, Darron," Scott said in a calm voice, "you've lost."
Darron let out an airy chuckle. "No, I haven't. You see, your daughter," Darron gestured to Sarah, "needs to learn to have thicker skin."
"What do you mean?" Sarah asked.
Darron gave a smirk. "I'm saying... you really need to learn how to kill. Otherwise..."
A gun shot came from behind them.
And in an instant, Sarah knew where that bullet was heading.
The intense immediate pain Sarah felt caused her to scream and fall to the ground. Darron grabbed her before Scott could reach her and threw her into the ring where she was before.
"...you'll be the actual victim."
Darron picked up Scott's helmet and threw it through the window behind him, making sure he could not shrink down and escape.
Scott took a step towards Darron, but Darron pulled a gun on him. "I wouldn't try anything, Scott Lang," Darron warned with a grin, "Your daughter's life depends on it."
"Sarah!" Cassie shouted, frozen in place. Darron looked at the body guard behind Scott and Cassie and gestured to him.
Sarah slowly started standing up, trying to regain her stance. She looked up just in time to see Cassie being snatched by one of Darron's body guards. Scott turned around and tried to reach for Cassie, but Darron kicked the back of his knees, causing Scott to drop to the ground.
Sarah just froze. There was so much going on so quickly that her brain seemed to shut down. It was working overtime, trying to figure out what was going on and where everyone was, that she didn't realize that Darron had put the cuffs back onto Sarah, linking her with the computer once again.
Darron swung around back to Scott, grinning from ear to ear. "Now, Scott," he said, seeming to skip on Cloud 9, "here is your dilemma. You can save your youngest daughter, Cassie, from being killed by this gentleman," he gestured to the large and dominating body guard holding Cassie, "or you can save your older daughter." Darron glanced at Sarah, who gave him a death glare. "All it takes is one choice."
Without hesitation, Scott said, "What do you need?"
Darron smiled wider, but in a way that sent chills down Sarah's spine. "Simple; you need to take Sarah's spot."
Instinctively, Sarah leaped for Darron. She was not about to let her dad die, not after just getting him back.
But, Sarah was held back by, not only by the cuffs on her hands, but her steadily growing wound. She collapsed almost immediately after leaping from the pain in her side.
Scott glanced down at Sarah, fear clearly set in his eyes. He looked down, locking eyes with Sarah. Her vision was blurry, but she could see the outline of Scott's head nodding in agreement.
No, she thought, no, he can't agree to this! He'll die! She wanted to speak, but she was in so much pain that it was becoming difficult to breathe.
"Excellent," she heard Darron respond, "I knew you would come around." Darron grabbed Sarah and made her stand up, causing Sarah to yelp in pain. He took the cuffs off of her and dragged her to join the rest of the hostages. The body guard tossed Cassie towards them, landing in Sarah's arms.
Sarah tried to think of a way to stop Darron, but she was exhausted and weak. She let go of Cassie and collapsed next to Hope and Hank, struggling to breathe.
There was nothing she could do.
She could not save her father.
