My Plan

Sarah groggily woke up to a bright light in her face. She attempted to move her hand to shield her eyes, but something was holding her hand back. She looked down to figure out that her hands were tied to a wooden seat which she was currently sitting in. She struggled to try and loosen the bindings, but there was no way out of them.

It then occurred to Sarah that she was not wearing her suit. She was in her school clothes she had kept on underneath her suit.

So, where was her suit?

"Good, you're awake."

Sarah turned her head 90 degrees to see a tall shadow leaning against the wall. It walked closer, becoming more recognizable to Sarah. It was the one person she was afraid of.

Darron Cross.

Instinctively, she tried to get out of the bindings even harder. But, like she learned before, she was stuck there.

"Why in such a rush?" Darron asked mockingly. "We're just getting started."

He pulled out a remote from his pocket and hit the top-right button. An overhead light turned on in front of Sarah, making her squint a bit. When her eyes adjusted, however, she saw another person tied in a very similar chair. Sarah's eyes teared up as she saw who it was.

Cassie.

Sarah wanted to speak, but physically couldn't. She wanted to, simultaneously, spit in Darron's face for trapping the two of them, ask Cassie if she was okay, and use the entire list of curse words she knew directly at Darron. But, unfortunately, human vocal chords are unable to currently do that, so Sarah just stared in disbelief, while the only word that came out of her mouth at barely a whisper was, "Cassie?"

Cassie was gagged and sitting in a wooden chair with handcuffs keeping her hands at bay. She stared at Sarah with her big brown eyes full of tears, her hair all over the place, and her shirt and jeans covered in dust and mud.

Sarah glared at Darron with laser focus and said, almost yelled, "What did you do to her?!"

Darron knelt down beside her and said, "Oh, I didn't do anything to her... well, when she cooperated."

Sarah got the opportunity and spat in his face and said, "You're sick!"

Darron used a handkerchief to wipe the spit off and replied, "You're right, I am, but not for long."

Sarah turned her head slightly and asked, "What do you mean not for long?"

Rising to his feet, Darron walked over to Cassie as he answered, "You see, Sarah, I am dying. I was diagnosed with some virus that the doctors made up a name for. They hadn't seen anything like it. They claimed  that it was from my exposure to the subatomic particles a while back. Your dad should know all about those."

Clenching her hands into fists, Sarah asked, "How did you escape from going subatomic?"

"Well, unlike your father, I took precautions. I made a fail safe to make sure that to was possible for me to get back to human size. Unfortunately, I didn't take enough precautions. Because you and your father damaged my suit during our little encounter, my fail safe didn't work correctly. I managed to grow back to normal size using all of the growing disks I had left. However, due to the damages in the suit, it didn't protect all of my body. My heart has begun to fail, and I have found a solution for it.

"You see, subatomic particles can indeed be manipulated to do as a scientist may please, depending on if the experiment is set up correctly and you take extreme caution. So, in theory, I can save myself by forcing the subatomic particles in my body to go into someone else's.

"The catch, however, is that I need someone else who has been exposed to subatomic particles to exchange with."

Sarah's eyes grew wide as she figured out who he was talking about. "So, you need my dad's exposure to the particles to save your life."

Darron glanced at Sarah and said, "Precisely."

"But, you could kill him."

"Oh, no, not could."

Sarah's heart stopped. Darron was trying to kill her dad. Her heart rate increased tenfold. "But... but it hasn't killed you yet. It couldn't kill him..."

"I thought you were the smart one," Darron remarked with a scoff, "I assumed you would figure it out by then. If you take someone and put them in a completely new environment and an entirely new virus, their body will not be able to handle it--"

"And the shock of the new particles will kill him." Sarah finished barely holding herself together. "And that's why you needed Cassie..."

"So she could tell me where her precious father was." Darron knelt down next to a currently crying Cassie and lifted her chin.

Sarah had tears falling down her chin. She shouted, "Don't touch her!"

Darron glared at Sarah before walking back towards Sarah. "I'm sorry Cassie had to be dragged into this. She's too young to try and comprehend what is going on. However," Darron came up behind Sarah's chair and grabbed her shoulders, causing Sarah to flinch, "I am so happy you got involved. I needed someone else to go down -- my body is in too weak of shape -- and it just so happens you have a suit. And, might I add," he gestured toward Cassie, "motivation to do so."

Sarah looked up at a wet-faced Cassie, whose tears were still falling down her face. Sarah sighed and bowed her head in defeat.

"Wise choice." Darron smiled and took out the remote again. "Oh! And just in case you change your mind about the whole situation..."

Darron pushed a button to turn on all of the lights in the room. It was bigger than Sarah anticipated, but everyone was still close to each other. By everyone, it means that Sarah, Cassie, their mom and stepdad, Hope, and Hank were all there with duct tape over their mouths. Additionally, guards had guns to their heads, and Sarah was sure that the safeties were off.

Sarah glared at Darron, who smiled in triumph. "Well," Darron said, "I assume you have an answer."

Sarah just glared harder at Darron before sighing and asked, "Where do we go?"
