"Skylar?" His voice was shaking so bad by the time she had woken up to answer his phone call. So much had happened so quickly that he hadn't fully come to terms with it. The first person he had thought to call was Skylar, after all, she was his rock. She had been sleeping soundly, when her phone finally woke her up with the prolonged ringtone, and her heart sunk to the bottom of her stomach, scared of why someone would be calling from Alex's phone at 1 in the morning.

"What's wrong?" Immediately after hearing his voice, she was awake and beginning to get dressed just in case he needed her right then.

Alex let out a breathy sigh, and began to tell her what had happened to him after he had gotten home with Grace. "My parents...they were at the house when I got there...they tried to take Grace, they said that she wasn't mine, but they neglected her. My mom..she tried to hit me...I don't know what to do. What do I do?" Once again, just like when he had seen his parents in front of the house, he began to panic.

"I'll be right there. Just hold on." Skylar said, her heart breaking for him as she took the silence for a yes and hung up the phone. In two minutes she was dressed, and at her parents door. She had almost just walked straight past the door when she realized that they could help, and that they should know where she is. So, she walked inside their room and gently woke her mother up, and soon her father woke up as well. "Alex needs me, his parents showed up..they're gone now, but he's scared they're gonna come back. They wanted to take Grace from him." She blurted, wringing her hands and shifting her weight nervously. "I don't know what to do. I don't know how to help."

It didn't take a single moment for her mom to sit up, grab Skylar's hands and calmly reassure her that everything was going to be alright. "Bring Alex and Grace here, and we can figure it out together, okay?" Her mother tucked a stray hair behind her daughter's ear, as Skylar simply nodded, and pulled away, running downstairs. No speed was fast enough. Alex needed her and so did Grace. Soon, she pulled up to the house, parking in the same spot she had since the first time he invited her over, when they still had that project to do. School was in the back of her mind at this moment as she rushed to the door, where Alex met her, and wrapped her arms around him.

"I'm so sorry Alex. Don't worry, everything is going to be okay." She cooed, and pulled back only enough to kiss him sweetly, and stroke his tear stained cheeks. He smiled softly at her and Grace came to the door, tugging on Alex's pant leg. Skylar pulled away and Alex picked up the shaking girl and held her in his arms, rubbing her back. "Lets get you two away from here, and we can come up with a game plan together."

Alex nodded and grabbed a bag full of stuff, and they were on their way. Alex and Grace took his car and Skylar took hers, and they all drove to Skylar's house where her dad was waiting on the front porch for them. Skylar took Grace inside while Alex explained to Skylar's dad about what happened, and eventually they were all back in bed, not really sure when they laid down. Grace was already asleep in Skylar's bed, and Skylar was trying when Alex came upstairs. Peeling the sleeping little girl off of her so as not to wake her up, she got up and closed the door to her room behind her. "Hey." She whispered, taking his hand and stroking it.

"Hey." He whispered back, wrapping her in his arms and kissing her forehead. They stayed in silence for a moment before he spoke once again. "Your mom offered to let us stay here as long as we'd like."

"That's great." She smiled and squeezed his hand. "Nothing will happen to you or Grace while you're in this house."

He smiled back, but it didn't take long for it to turn into a frown. "That was our home Skylar, and in two seconds those monsters ruined that. Grace grew up in that house, and now she has to stay somewhere else because our  own parents decided to come back." A shaky sigh left his lips as he closed his eyes and tried to keep from getting too emotional. "I'm sorry."

"There's nothing to be sorry about Alex. It is horrible, and it's okay to be upset about it. Come sleep in my room, I have a blow up mattress, you'll be able to see Grace, and I'll be right there if you need me." She whispered, looking up at him.

He nodded and gave her a tired smile."Okay." It didn't take long for them to be settled and nearly asleep. Grace was snuggled against Skylar's body, acting like an adorable space heater, and Alex was on the air mattress, facing the girls, his head propped up by some pillows and his eyes closed. Skylar personally felt a lot better. Having them so close allowed her to make sure that everything was okay, and that nothing bad could hurt them. In the morning they would come up with a plan to make things better, and keep Alex's parents from taking Grace. However, she knew it was going to be very difficult. All of them knew this.

Hey, so I've finally written this chapter. I've been so insanely busy lately and I feel so bad for not writing, so I just sat down and wrote. I know the chapter is short, but hopefully it tides you guys over until I can find time to write the next chapter. Thank you for reading.

With love,

Kenna
