Candice's POV
I felt a little nervous when I heard the word "Personal" because I have always been a very reserved, shy and private person.
I was contemplating the questions Harry could ask me. After a few seconds or more, of silence, I finally gathered the courage to face whatever he wanted to ask and replied "Okay."
"Why does Veronica treat you like that?" He asked out of curiosity.
I didn't expect him to ask me that, and I was not able to get the words out of my mouth.
I started getting flashbacks, some really terrible ones. I felt like all my scars were cut open and suddenly exposed. I felt weak, I felt vulnerable.
I flinched at those memories, or more like, nightmares. I heard Harry calling out for me..
"Rose! Are you alright?" I was brought back to my senses by his voice.
"Why are you crying, Rose?" I put my hands up only to feel my cheeks, wet.
I didn't even realise I had been crying, up until then at least. That's what Veronica does to me.
"I'm really sorry Rose, if I brought up something I shouldn't have." He apologised.
"It's okay, Harry." I managed to get the words out.
"Can you please drop me home? I do not know the way back home, else I would have just walked." I asked. I just wanted to get back home, back to the shell. Probably it wasn't a wise idea to agree to come here with Harry.
"What makes you think that I would let you walk your way back home, Rose?"
I just sat there silently, not really knowing what to say.
"Excuse me! Can we please have the bill?" He asked the waiter.
"Sure, sir." The waiter responded and left to get our bill.
"Here it is." He came with the bill, moments later.
"How much is it?" I asked Harry, looking for the money in my bag.
"Woah! Hold on a second. What are you doing?" He asked, surprised.
"We have to pay the bill, don't we?" I asked him, confused by his surprised expressions.
"There is no 'we' in this Rose. There is no way I'm letting you pay. So you might as well stop digging your bag now." He replied.
"But --
"Hush Rose, don't be stubborn. Let's not argue about this because we can go on and on around this and still I won't let you pay."
"But I don't want you paying for me. I don't want you to waste your money on me." I said.
"This is not a 'waste', Rose. I told you this was my way to apologise for whatever happened earlier."
I admitted my defeat and sat there silently. He paid the bill and left a tip for the waiter. After that, I picked my bag and we walked out of the cafe, towards his car.
Once again, he held the door to the passenger seat open for me, and I got in.
The rest of the car ride was silent. We didn't talk much, except for the time when I gave him directions to my house from the landmarks I remembered faintly.
He finally pulled in the driveway of my house.
"Thank You Harry." I said with a smile.
"You're Welcome, Rose." He said and flashed a smile and his dimples showed.
As soon as I was about to get off the car, he said..
"Rose, do you mind if we exchange numbers?" He asked shyly.
"Umm.. Okay." I replied, feeling a little nervous. Maybe things were going faster than I expected them to, but I didn't want him to think of me as a prude.
We exchanged the numbers and I got out of the car, thanked him once again and he drove away.
I took out the keys out of my bag and opened the door.
"I'm home mo--
I froze mid sentence. This was for the first time when I came home from school and my mom wasn't there to greet me, pull me into a hug, and ask me about my day.
I felt a lump in my throat and tears forming in my eyes, but I quickly wiped them off of my face when I heard Liam's footsteps.
"Oh! You're home Candy. How was school?"
"It was fine."
"Did you make any friends?" He asked me as we settled down on the couch.
"Yeah. I did. Two of them." I responded.
"See! I told you things are going to be alright. Anyway, I have to go out for a little while, will be you okay by yourself?" He asked.
"Of course. Don't worry about me." I said.
"Do you want me to get anything for you?" He asked.
"No, thank you."
"Alright, I'll see you soon baby girl." He kissed my forehead and walked out of the door.
Liam is the best brother. He is always so protective, so caring and so gentle.
I sat on the couch for a while and then got up to take a shower.
I entered my room, took off my shoes, my sweatshirt and jeans. I stepped into the shower and stood there with my head down.
I wrapped a towel around myself and stepped out.
I plugged in some old songs on my laptop and changed my clothes.
I took out my pyjamas and an oversized black t-shirt from my closet.
I changed quickly and made myself comfortable on the bed.
I pulled out my journal from the drawer beside my bed.
I had just put the date on the page when I heard my cell phone beep.
I picked up my phone to see who it was and it was a text from Harry.
Harry: "Hey Rose! Thanks for today."
I sat there and thought why is he thanking me when I should be the one thanking him?
I replied,
"I didn't do anything. Why are you thanking me? I should be the one thanking you."
