I woke up the next day with no desire to go on through the day. I wanted to remain in bed until I could fix this entire situation out. Then again, I remembered there was no way I could resolve this. It was set in stone that I had to marry Conor, no taking in consideration my heart desires.
"Come in," I spoke, staring at the door, waiting to see my mom entering the room after her soft knocking. "Mom." I turned around and pulled the sheets all over my body, fixing my position.
"We have a meeting with your dad in New York, we are leaving you here and trusting you won't pull a disappearing act." She rolled her eyes.
"Okay," I scoffed. "Have fun then. I'll spend the rest of day in bed, pondering about everything wrong I have done." Sarcastically, I spoke.
"Taylor please behave. We will be back tomorrow at night, so we expect to see you here." I nodded, not daring to look at her.
"Okay mother, enjoy your trip with dad."
"Thank you." She replied and a few seconds after, the door was already shut. I took a deep breath, as I tried to ignore the fact I was dying to see Harold. I got up from bed and walked over to the window. I saw both my parents entering the black Rover. I pressed my lips together, but a smiled formed upon my lips as I realized what I needed to do to feel better about my life at the moment. I headed to my closet and took a coat and my white Converse shoes. I put both on and grabbed my car keys. As I headed down stairs I noticed Alondra was cleaning the windows. She turned around to face me at the sound of my shoes against the floor.
"Miss, I had orders to not let you go unless I go with you." I rolled my eyes.
"Alondra I like you, but I don't think you should accompany me. It's some sort of uh, you know," I chuckled. "Me time."
"Your mother told me you were probably going to head out as soon as they did. I can't risk losing my job Miss." She looked at the ground, worried.
"I promise you I'm not going to see him, even if that's all I want right now," I offered her a warm smile. "I won't let you get in trouble, but I need to be alone. I want to be alone."
"I didn't see you leave if they ask." She said and I smiled, wide. She went back to the window cleaning situation and I walked out of the house, trying to make the least amount of noises. I headed inside the car and drove as fast as I could, trying to avoid anyone else seeing me, besides Samuel at the gate. I was going to go to the rental and grocery store. There were a few movies I was dying to see that I knew Netflix didn't have and of course, I was going to eat a lot of junk food because I deserved it. I arrived at the grocery store and parked my car near the entrance. I got out of it and once I was inside the store, I headed to the chips and cookie aisle. Two bags of Doritos, one of Cheetos a 12-pack of Oreo's and Chips Ahoy and of course four bags of Pop Corn. I gazed throughout the aisle, making sure if I didn't miss out on my favorites. I gave a quick nod at the aisle and headed toward the cashier. I looked out for the one with two or less people waiting.
"Cashier 4 looks alright," I whispered to myself. I waited two or three minutes in line. "Hi. Just these." I said and the cashier smiled, politely.
"Ten fifty," She said. I handed her the exact amount of money. "Have a nice day." She said, monotony invading her voice. I took the bag with me and headed to my car again. I decided to open one of the Doritos bag and took two cheesy triangles as I drove away from the store. I was heading toward the rental store and lucky me, my parents knew the owner, so every single rental was free.
"Maybe I'm too busy being yours to fall for somebody new." I yelled like a little girl in excitement as I heard those words through the speakers, I decided to turn up the volume, but sadly I was already in the parking lot of the rental store, so I turned off the radio. I got out of the car and as soon as I got inside, I felt something strange in the pit of my stomach. I took a deep breath as I gazed at the different aisles, standing still. The feeling didn't go away. I started to walk toward the Rom Com section and as I took out one of the DVD boxes, I felt someone standing near me. I turned right and no one was there, so I turned left and right at the second, I saw the shadow of someone running away. It appeared to me this person didn't want to be seen, obviously. I put the DVD box back where it was and walked toward this shadow. I was hoping it was him, who else wouldn't want me to see them?
"Harold?" I asked, expecting a response. I turned to the other aisle and there he was. He was standing right in front of me, not close, but not too far either. "Oh my God... Harold." We were standing staring at each other shocked, as if we were looking at each other's ghost.
"Stay away Taylor, please. I made a promise to your mother and you're going to be married, you can't cheat on him again." He cleared his throat, after speaking nothing but the truth.
"I was just looking for some movies and I felt something the second I entered this place and I was looking for a distraction, something far away from you and you are here, standing right in front of me somewhere I thought I was not going to find you." I took a deep breath, trying to find some composure.
"I'm sorry, I have to go." He said and left me standing there with nothing but shattered hopes.
