Let's Stay Together

Lindsey spoke to the doctor and she was cleared for  release, though she was given orders of light bed rest after a full 24 hours on strict bedrest. She could only do household chores, leaving Lindsey to take the kids to school and run short errands as she could do nothing strenuous, including sex for one full week. At the end of that week, she would have a follow up appointment, monitor any contractions, perform an ultrasound and move forward from there.

Stevie was put up in their bedroom, secured with blankets, magazines, tv and movies. Lindsey was especially protective now, scanning her face for any inkling of discomfort or pain. He was watching her like a hawk and his stare made her uncomfortable.

"Can you not?" she said from her bed one evening after she had been complaining of a terrible backache.

"What?" Lindsey said as he passed by. "I wasn't doing anything"

"Then why do you look so guilty? I caught you. You have walked past our room five times now, staring at me."

"You're beautiful. Maybe I came to look at your pretty little face."

"Nice try but I know that's not true."

"You don't know"

"Yes I do"

"Okay, fine...I was checking on you. Are you feeling any better?"

"Yeah, I think I was bent over for too long and my back got a little stiff."

"Good. I mean, not good but you know what I mean. I'm glad it's not something more"

"I understand."

"I think I have a little surprise for you this evening. We can't go out for date night this week but I hope you still have a great night."

"I'm sure I will, with you around" She kisses him then gets up to shower and wear something other than pajamas.

She blow dries her hair, letting it fall in natural waves, sprays on a little perfume and puts on leggings and a long black top that now exposed a decent amount of cleavage. When she opens the bathroom door, she finds the lights low and candles are lit all around. Lindsey pops a cd in the stereo and he turns it down so it's barely above a whisper. He slinks over to her, gripping her waist. He pulls her in for a passionate kiss, tangling his hand in her hair.

I, I'm so in love with you
Whatever you want to do
Is all right with me
Cause you make me feel so brand new
And I want to spend my life with you

They say since, baby, since we've been together
Loving you forever
Is what I need
Let me be the one you come running to
I'll never be untrue

Let's, let's stay together
Lovin' you whether, whether
Times are good or bad, happy or sad
Whether times are good or bad, happy or sad

He kissed her neck, nuzzling his nose into the soft skin there, nipping at her hungrily. It was torture, knowing they couldn't do anything.

Why, why some people break up
Then turn around and make up
I just can't see
You'd never do that to me (would you, baby)
Staying around you is all I see
(Here's what I want us to do)

Let's, we oughta stay together
Loving you whether, whether
Times are good or bad, happy or sad

"I hate you" she breathes, running her hands all over his shoulders and back. "Doctor's orders"

"Only a few more days" he says, "Hopefully"

"We rarely go this long without it"

"I know, baby. Just think how good it will be when we can"

"Oh, I know! And I can't wait!" She trails a hand to the front of his jeans and delicately flicks open the button of his jeans.

"Stevie, Stevie, Stevie..." he hisses, pushing her hand away.

"You're turning me down?" she asks, pouting.

"Baby, you know I don't want to but you know what the doctor said"

"Yes I do but he said it about me. He never said I couldn't--"

"I'm trying to play fair here. Now, let's dig into the dessert I have in the fridge, have a glass of sparkling cider since my little lady can't drink and have a beautiful, relaxing night"

"Thank sounds wonderful" she says. She leans into him, kissing him again. "You really are so amazing. I am so thankful for these years I've had with you."

"The very best years of my life." He places some pillows and a blanket from the closet on the floor, leaving her to get comfy so he can grab the cheese cake he had made. Down in the kitchen, he pulls two champagne flutes from the cabinet, the bottle of cider from the fridge door and two slices of dark chocolate and strawberry cheese cake on two plates. He knows it will be a winner with her, as she had been craving sweets like crazy recently. Balancing it all in his hands, he works his way back upstairs to Stevie who is sat back on several pillows. Her top flowed gracefully over her belly that housed the littlest Buckingham and he smiled at her. "I can't get over how gorgeous you are" he says as he enters the room.

"Remind me to get you an appointment with the eye doctor. It seems like your vision is failing in your old age"

"Old age? Let's not forget who is the older of the two of us" he teases.

"Okay, okay." she says, running a hand over her bump. "That's enough of that"

He smiles at her. "You're like a fine wine, angel. You get better with age."

"Sweet talker." She strokes his face. "So what did you bring me?"

He presents her a slice of cheesecake on a plate and a fork and her eyes go wide, a smile spreading across her face. "How does it look? Does it meet the Queen's standards?"

"Oh, very much so!" She takes the plate into her little hands and waits for him to sit with her. He pops the cork and pours them each a glass. "What should we toast to?" she asks, raising her glass.

"Hmm...how about to a healthy Baby Buck?"

"Yes, to Baby Buck." He clinks his glass with hers and entwine their arms together momentarily, taking a small sip. He motions for her to sit between his legs and they relax into each other. He feeds her a little of her dessert, and she feeds him. They talk about anything and everything- both light hearted and serious, spending most of the night on the floor just happy to be together.
