Chapter 1- Fiery Strings of Hair

*FINN'S POV*

The alarm set on my phone rang invariably, my eyes clicked open and I noticed the time 10:20AM. "Shit, I am late for school. Like terribly late." I mumbled to myself. After the blurriness in my eyesight faded away, I noticed I was on Caleb's couch. Everyone was scattered everywhere, Millie was sleeping in the La-Z-Boy besides me, Noah and Caleb were on the floor with blankets around them and Gaten was sleeping on the couch across from me.

I tapped Millie's shoulder repeatedly and she groggily said, "What do you want, Finn?" She rolled over to face me, her eyes were still closed but then she slowly opened them up and gave me half smile. "It's Monday. Don't we have-" I said as Millie interrupted me, "It's the first day of summer Finny Boy. But you wouldn't know that because you got wasted right after the last school bell rang." She closed her eyes again and was about to drift asleep. "Millie." I poked her, "Mills." I started creeping my fingers at her waist, gently tickling her. "Finn! Stoppp." She hid her face under the blanket, "C'mon, Mills. I am so bored right now. Why are you even sleeping this late, you don't drink...or even sleep past 10." I snickered. Her eyes crept out of the blanket and she rolled her eyes at me, "I am not that uptight!" She snapped as she quickly sat up on the chair. "Yeah, okay." I said sarcastically. "Finn!" She giggled, it was cute. "Fine then, prove it. Drink some of that vodka." I nodded my head toward the open bottle of the clear drink. "Finn, I haven't even brushed my teeth yet-" She stuttered. "Uppp tightttt." I sang. "Fine, I will do it." She rolled her eyes and grabbed the bottle, she took a sniff of it first and made an unpleasant face "This smells like something a dentist would clean their supplies with." I laughed and shook my head, I knew she wasn't going to be drinking it. "Well I don't have all day and I have a hot date with pancakes." Millie furrowed her eyebrows and rolled her eyes, "I prefer waffles." She tried to change the subject. "Well are you going to do it or not." I smiled, she took a deep breath and held the heavy bottle against her lips, she was tilting it ever so slowly but eventually the alcohol hit her mouth and she coughed, "That is utterly horrible!" She said in her pleasant British accent, "It is stale and flat, and it tastes like herpes." She wiped her mouth. "I really do not want to ask how you know how herpes tastes like." I grinned. "Am I still uptight..?" She said quietly. "I don't know, why do you care about my opinion?" I got up to the kitchen and she followed. "Because I don't want my friends thinking I am just the uptight girl sitting in everyone's shadow." She fiddled with her fingers, she always had such anxiety. There was never a time where she wasn't insecure. "You're only sitting in someone's shadow if you let them do things you're not comfortable with." I sighed. She took two waffles and popped them in a toaster, and she walked over to me. "Thanks Finn." She smiled at the ground. "Yeah, whatever." I pulled her into a hug.

Millie was obviously beautiful, not going to lie. She had short luminescent brown hair that was straight but curled out on the edges. She had innocent light brown, doey eyes and you could look into them all day. Everyone expects us to be with each other, I am the ultimate rock star of the group, and she's the perfect sweet heart princess, but for some reason we never really gotten to that subject about us. We were always with our people, Millie and I never really had time alone together to ever find out if we liked each other. But for now, 'friends' sounded good when I was with her.

*MILLIE'S POV*

My head was resting in the crook of Finn's neck, he had this sweet smell. "Mills.." His head lowered and his lips grazed against my ear. Was this the moment? Was he going to tell me he had feelings for me? "Yeah?" I answered quietly. Everything was so hush, it felt so secret and intense until he said, "Your eggos are burning." He said in his regular tone and he pulled away, "Oh right." My lips quivered,
