Patrick came home, briefly saying goodnight to his children before dumping his paperwork on the dining table and getting to work, Shelagh managed to go to the sitting room after putting the kids to sleep instead of retreating to her room.
''How was work dear?'' She asked walking past him on the way to the kitchen, She got no reply for a moment.
"'Busy. you were right about the measles. I've had five cases today and and a pile of paperwork bigger than mount Everest!'' Patrick sighed looking up at his wife who had just carried in two steaming hot cups of tea placing them down on the table

''I sometimes wonder if you're an angel'' he smiled, taking her hands in his own, she smiled back trying to stay upbeat though her will to do so was fading fast.
''Almost but not quite.'' she replied, sipping at her tea so as not to show her smile turn to a grimace.
''I know. and I'm glad of it in times like these." He said squeezing her hand, Shelagh shook her head, pulling her hand out of his grasp and standing up quickly.
"Patrick... I'm so sorry... I- I just feel like a hopeless mother... Like I can't do anything right... And I never see you because of work..." She sighed, her voice shaking as she attempted to hide the fact she was about to cry.
Patrick sighed down at his tea in slight despair.
"Well it's hardly my fault! Beatrix has been keeping me up! I can't work with a screaming baby!" He sighed, more angrily than intended.
Shelagh raised an eyebrow at her husband, pursing her lips. "She always--" He shifted uncomfortably realising his mistake and noticing the anger in his wife's eyes. Shelagh chuckled to herself in disbelief, gritting her teeth
''No Please! continue with what you were expressing about how much of an inconvenience our daughter is!'' She replied, her tone now laced with ice the doctor had never heard from her. Patrick started stuttering to fix his mess to no avail
''I see. I think I'll be sleeping in Angela's room for a while. You'll realize how easy it is waking up with Beatrix every half hour.'' Shelagh replied pushing her tea away from her and leaving for her daughter's room.
