Story of my first competition:
I'm never going to forget my first competition. Not because it was amazing, but because it was so bad. My band is not used to marching on turf, and once we stepped foot onto the field, i felt like i was already going to slip and fall. No one fell however, but we were so intimidated by the other bands, and with it being the first competition, almost the whole band was scared to death. Our show this year started off with a trumpet duet, and they didn't make it through it. They cracked notes and stopped playing, and then the drumline came in a measure early, so many people missed to step off. I suppose that most freshmen played quietly or didn't even play at all, and the band sounded weak and timid. I however, knew that I was a strong player, and kept playing my part as well as I could. Then, as I was marching to one of my dots, I saw a white plume fall off and hit me, which caught me by surprise. So there was a plume laying on the floor that people could have tripped over, but luckily one of the guard girls brought it over to the sideline during their equipment change. Obviously, we didn't place, and it was in fact one of our worst performances. Our score was about a 58, and we got back into the bus disappointed.
