Chapter 24: Wake up

My body ached as I began to wake up. Everything was too blurry, and a tingly sensation shot up throughout my body starting at my legs.
"Hello..."
I said in a groan.
Someone touched my arm and without warning I was pulled into a hug.
"You're awake!"
I nodded groggily and looked up at the person who had me locked in an embrace.
"Michael?"
I asked confused.
"Nina are you ok? When I heard the news Alyssa and I rushed down here."
I tried sitting up, Michael wrapped his arm around mine and pulled me up assisting me.
"Where's mom... where's Sam?"
I asked without thought.
"I think you should focus more on yourself love... they're in other rooms. Have you eaten?"
"Michael I need to know that they're ok"
Alyssa walked in carrying a tray of warm food, steam rising above it.
"Nina! You're awake!"
She placed the tray thoughtfully on the counter as she rushed over to me, hugging me all in one swift motion.
"I thought you were..."
She trailed off and soon I could feel my shoulder begin to dampen.
"Alyssa, I'm ok. No need to worry, I promise. Now, where is Mom and Sam?"
And for a split second, Alyssa glanced over at Michael nervously.
My heart stopped.
"Alyssa. Tell me. I saw that."

The nurses tried to stop me as I began to make my way towards the door.

"Move away from me now! I need to find my mother!"

One lady gripped my arm, and I quickly threw it as I walked out into the hallway. I was wearing one of the hospital robes, my bare back exposed to anyone who walked behind me as I made an effort into finding the visitors desk. Michael, Alyssa, and the nurses all chased after me, begging me to go back into my room.

"Excuse me ma'am."

I said trying to get the ladies attention.

"Oh hello there, how may I help you?" She asked a bit too cheery.

"Ok last night me and my family were in a wreck. Or maybe it was another night, I don't know how long I've been asleep. Either way, could you help me find my mother and my boyfriend?"

The ladies face was one of shock.

"Um... name?"

"Well I'm Nina, I came in with a sam and a Margaret."

The lady typed something in and looked up at me precariously.

"Ma'am, you have over ten people asking you to go back to your room and you haven't seen your mother yet. I don't want to be the one who ruins this all for you. Are you sure you want to know?"
A tear rolled down my cheek and I could feel my body begin to shake.
What happened? Where was my mother? And why could I not find her? Why would no one tell me?

"Yes... please I need to know. This is my mother."

The nurses caught up and all stood behind me, as well as Michael and Alyssa.

The lady behind the desk all looked at the nurses helplessly.

"Ma'am, this is my mother. I deserve to know."

The lady at the counter sighed.

"She's in room 237 in the sister building on the right. Take the escalator at the end of the hall and walk down the sky bridge that connects the two buildings."

I smiled contentedly.

"Thank you so much!"

I began trying to run, my entire body felt broken, as if all my bones were broken shards of weak hallow glass. I was a broken statue trying to run like a real girl.

On occasion I had to take a minute to breathe, to hold onto something.

"Nina-"

Michael called my name and held onto my arm.
