"Hurry up Keith! Lance is waiting outside!"
The little boy scurried out of the door and quickly grabbed his friend's hand.
"Good morning!", Lance grinned.
"Good morning!"
They joined the other group of small kids walking to school.
Keith and Lance always walked together holding hands. They thought it was safer if they always stood closer together.
"Hey Keith, guess what my mommy got me?"
"Hmm?", the raven-haired boy pondered.
"A red bouncy ball."
"No way!!"
"Hey!", Samuel Sendak snapped, "Why are you two holding hands?!"
"Because we want to stay together", Keith said defensively. The little boy balled up his fist at the kid.
"That's stupid", Sendak scoffed, "You guys can't be together ALL the time!"
"Yeah huh!", Lance protested defiantly. He gripped Keith's hand tighter.
"We're going to be together forever so HA!"
And with that last statement, Lance and Keith made crude noises while sticking out their tongue at Sendak, and walked away.
