It was a bright spring day.

The pollen was murdering everyone's sinuses, but Mrs McClain ignored it.

It was her baby son's first visit to the park.

Lance loved it. The two year old played happily in the sandbox, laughing despite the sand covering his tan skin and hair.

"Sand!", the little boy squealed. He grabbed a a fistful of it in his tiny hands and threw it in the air. It rained down on him like a dirty shower.

He suddenly noted the little boy on the other side of the sandbox, crying.

He accidentally got sand in the other boy's eyes.

He felt awful.

He gingerly crawled over to him. The other boy had sand riddled through his mop of raven hair.

The little boy had his hands to his eyes, wailing.

Lance saw what looked like the boy's mother on the opposite side of the park. She wasn't paying any attention to her crying son.

Lance called his own mother, who came and cleaned the boy's eyes out with the end of her shirt.

"Be more careful", she told Lance firmly before returning to her seat on the bench.

The new boy had stopped crying.
He had his eyes opened finally, and was staring intently at Lance.

He had pretty eyes. They were blue like Lance's, but darker.

"Er yoo okey?", Lance attempted to ask. He was only two. He was quite an intelligent child, but his speech was still quite limited.

But the boy seemed to understand.
He shook his head.

Lance leaned over and kissed the boy's cheek.

"Kisses make yoo bebber!", he explained.

The other boy smiled sweetly.

"I'm keef", the boy said suddenly.
Lance assumed that it was his name.

"I'm Lace!", he responded with much enthusiasm.

And that's how it happened.

A spring day at the local park.

It started with a friendly gesture, and blossomed into a beautifully close friendship.

The friendship of Lance and Keith.
