Magnus rushed to the center of the City of Glass. Demons flashed in the corners of his eyes. Fighting. Fleeing. Killing. It sent shivers up and down his spine. Something that was hard to do.
Magnus had never seen a battle as bloody as this. Shadowhunters laid limp on the ground. Chests stayed eerily still.
He kept running, his breath running thin.
He couldn't help but constantly glance at the rune on his arm. A rune created by Clary Fairchild to bind a downworlder and Shadowhunter together. Magnus could feel Alec's strength course through him. A constant stream of energy went through his body.
But, something else was there. It was as if it was a parabatai rune.
Magnus run up the stairs of the cities main hall. The safe house for the children and elderly. Magnus assumed everyone now arrived suggesting no one was out fighting. The Nephilim have retreated.
He entered and he heard chatting and then silence. He looked around trying to find Alec. Nothing.
He sighed inwardly. He walked around until he spotted a familiar friend. Catarina Loss. She easily stood out with her sky blue skin and snow white hair.
"Have you seen Alec?" he asked, his breath coming short and fast. Catarina shook her head. She nodded her head to a spot in front of them.
Magnus peered in that direction. He noticed a group of Shadowhunters kneeling on the ground. Isabelle stood a foot behind. Her face in her hands.
He mouthed a thanks to his old friend, he walked towards the Lightwoods.
When he was closer, he realized to problem.
In Robert Lightwood's arms laid little Max Lightwood. His skin paler than Alec's, it made the scarlet read patch of blood that intertwined with his hair stand out.
His features were soft and peaceful. A warrior finally resting.
Guilt and pain hit Magnus like a bullet. There was no reason why Max should be dead. No reason why someone of his age should be murdered.
Isabelle must've spotted Magnus, because she came up to him. "You have to do something! Magnus help him please!" She pleaded. Her voice shook with rage and grief. It made Magnus block out any outside thoughts.
"Isabelle. You know I can't," Magnus didn't want to say those words. But he couldn't lie to already broken Isabelle.
She fell onto Magnus and he wrapped his arms around her. Isabelle was shaking with rage. Magnus pressed her away from him and forced her to look at him. "Isabelle, you are strong. You are a Shadowhunter. I know I can't assist with grief. But be strong for your parents."
Her eyes looked numb. Magnus severely doubted that she was even listening. That doubt was swept away when she spoke. "I can't Magnus. Max was my responsibility. If I. . ." Her voice trailed off. Magnus couldn't help but wonder what she was thinking.
She fell back onto Magnus. He then realized how young and small Isabelle actually was. Magnus placed his head on top of the now, youngest Lightwood's.

Magnus couldn't tell how many minutes passed before he felt a tap on his shoulder. He turned his head and saw his Alexander.
He looked broken. Possibly worse than Isabelle who he was still holding.
Magnus felt his lovers pain. Magnus whispered something to Izzy, she then slipped away from him.
Alec pulled Magnus away. They went into a different corridor of the main hall. No one was in it.
Alec pulled Magnus in and held on to him. He rested his head on Magnus' shoulder and began to cry. Magnus kissed the top of his head. He then noticed Alec was breathing quickly.
"Alexander, darling, breathe."
It killed Magnus to see Alec like this. He rarely ever broke down like this.
Alec's breath sped up. Magnus made him sit on the ground, trying desperately to calm him.
"Alec. Alexander, could you look at me? Please?" Magnus was kneeling in front of his boyfriend. Alec's hair covered his eyes. Magnus pushed it behind his eyes. His dark blue eyes seemed shattered.
"Oh Alec," Magnus muttered to himself. Alec slowed his breathing and his tears stopped. His face was still red, and his eyes puffy.
Magnus kissed away the remaining tears. "Alec. Go be with your family. They need you right now." It hurt Magnus to say that to Alec, but he knew it needed to be done.
"No," Alec breathed. His voice dripping with acid.
"Alexander, I know it's a shock right now, but you will regret not being there. Isabelle needs you. She can't do this on her own. You have to be strong for them. Please, go to them. I have felt loss too many times, and I regret my actions towards it every day. "
"I know that Mags! I can't do it right now. I can't pretend to be someone that I'm not right after M-" his voice cracked. He sighed and pressed his head against the wall behind him. "I want to be with you. Let me stay. Please."
