The year was harder than imagined.
Magnus and Alec never met in person. Both schedules were filled constantly by either Clave meetings for Magnus or training and culture learning where he was staying.
The time zone didn't help either. By the time Alec was going to bed, it was almost the morning for Magnus. They tried to adapt, Alec would often make sure to call Magnus to say goodnight. Magnus tried to do the same thing, but he would have to wake up early.
Alec called while training, just so he could hear Magnus' voice while he was working. Magnus at that time was also working with clients, or getting ready for a meeting at the Institute. Sometimes he would even be traveling to Idris, Alec often longed to try and meet him.
But, it never worked.
Jace was Alec's only distraction. Jace knew when he was depressed, which was often. He was possibly the only way Alec stayed sane.
The family they stayed with was great. It was a family of an elder, three adults, and a few kids younger than fifteen.
They were fans of Jace, only the younger kids liked Alec. Probably because they didn't know about Alec's lover.
Not everyone was as supportive as his siblings.
Jace was also missing Clary. But she often visited. Alec begged Clary to bring Magnus, but he was always busy (no thanks to his parents). And he wouldn't even be able to come due to certain circumstances.
At sometimes Alec would get so mad that he would put his hand through a window, Jace would quickly heal him, and then explain why another window was broken.
At other times, Alec would get so depressed that he would hide in his room for days. He would call Magnus at those times and leave multiple voice mails. The year dragged on longer than wanted.
Magnus wasn't having that much hope on his side. He longed to be with his Alexander again. He had new clients every day, and meetings weekly.
His house was always cold without Alec's presence. He constantly had a nagging feeling that irritated him more than anything. He kept to himself more and more. He stopped speaking out at the Clave meetings. That only caused Catarina to become a pain in his side.
He only found hope in the times that he was able to talk to Alec. But, even that was becoming less and less.
They used to talk five to seven times a day, but as months went on. . . They called each other once a day. Sometimes not even calling.
Magnus unfortunately, fell back into his old alcohol addiction (not that it fully left). That too caused Cat to stick around. But it helped when it came to the thought of Alec. Oh Lord it helped.
He didn't dare to mention any of that to Alec. He could tell that he was depressed, even if he didn't mention it.
It pained Magnus more than he ever imagined to not be able to have Alec in his arms.
Magnus' phone went off. He grabbed it eagerly, seeing that it was just a client he declined the call and took another shot.

Alec only woke because Jace shook him awake. He turned to put his face in the pillow just in time for the lights. He groaned and sat up slightly. His back faced Jace who was sitting on the edge of his bed.
"Why are you in here? I don't remember asking for a stripper-gram," he faced his parabatai and saw that he was smiling. "You get pleasure out of this don't you? Inexplicable," Alec questioned.
