Alec walked into their loft in a rush. Magnus was happy at the thought of the loft being their loft.
He ran straight up to Magnus who was reading a book in a old language, trying to decipher the ancient text.
Alec then proceed to practically jump on Magnus.
He put his legs on both sides of the older man and wrap his arms around him. He put his head onto Magnus' shoulder.
Magnus didn't realize it, but Alec was shaking violently.
Magnus wrapped his arms around Alec hesitantly. He didn't have a clue what could've caused Alec to act this way.
"Alec, darling, what happened," Magnus whispered against his hair. He didn't look injuried, and he didn't have weapons on him, but he did throw his bow down when he came in. But an attack still didn't make sense.
Alec breathed a shaky breath. He wasn't crying, shaking in rage was to only thing Magnus could imagine.
"Before Shadowhunters can graduate, they have to travel to a different Institute when they turn 18. Everyone has to do it."
Oh.
"Since all the wars started happening when I was 18, I couldn't. It was too dangerous with the Endarkened and then training Clary. But now that it's safe. . ." His voice trailed off. Magnus pushed Alec off of him, and stood.
He wasn't so kind when he pushed him. He started pace, the only way he could think.
"So your moving. For a year. You can't go the Institute has to be ran-"
"Maryse is training Jace and Clary," Alec's voice was cut off from emotion. He was sitting with his arms around his legs, making himself seem smaller than he actually was.
"Where are you going to go?" Magnus asked. Alec seemed shocked by the basic question.
"That's it, you aren't going to try to keep me here?" Magnus shook his head, the room spun around him.
"Alexander, what do you expect me to do? I don't exactly get to change the law. Nephilim and Downworlders are trapped under it, you have to go, if you don't graduate no one in the Council will take you seriously," Alec put his head on his knees.
"You don't think I thought about this Mags? Lord knows that the Clave won't let me out. And my parents don't care enough to get me out of it. They will probably send me somewhere like Peru-"
"Please not Peru. I can't go."
"My point. And Jace will have to follow too. Isabelle will be put in charge along with Clary. Trust me, I have gone through all the different scenarios," Magnus' head hurt even more, trying to find a solution would be harder than expected.
"I could come with you, I'm a Council member, they would let me."
"I doubt that. Not everyone likes you in the Clave. Most see you as a threat to the order and just of our government."
What? Was that possible that people saw Magnus as a threat, and even for a reason as obscured as that?
"I could visit, weekly, monthly, I don't know. . ."
"My parents would make sure you stayed here, they aren't your biggest fans either. Also you have a job as the High Warlock and a chair holder. That would be asking too much of you," Alec stood up. He walked with feline grace that Magnus often forgot he possessed. (A/N cue flash back to when Alec fell down stairs on their 1st date)
He carefully kissed the edge of Magnus' mouth.
"Tomorrow I will know where I'm being stationed, and when I'm leaving. Expect it to be soon, possibly in the next few days. We'll find a way to see each other, I'm sure we'll be able to call, but a year without seeing each other would be. . ." His voice trailed off, he seemed lost in thought.
