Chapter 9
Wandering Oaken's and A Song in the Night
(Elsa's PoV)The snow on the mountain glows white. I look behind me and notice my footsteps have been covered up by the blowing snow. The whole mountain is a kingdom of isolation, and it looks like I'm the queen.
I love it. "All my life," I say, talking to myself, "it's been, don't let them in. Don't let them see. Be the good girl you always have to be. Conceal don't feel. Don't let them know."
I couldn't keep these feelings in for long. Heaven knows I've tried, though.
"Well," I say, or, rather, sing, "now they know!"
I feel the music bubble up inside of me and can't help but let it go. That's it, I think. Let it go!
"Let it go!" I sing, "Let it go! Can't hold it back anymore!" Then I turn to the side and build the snowman Anna always asked me to build with her.
"Let it go, let it go! Turn away and slam the door!" Bursts of snow shoot out of my hand. I make designs in the air. "I don't care what they're going to say!"
I make the snow on the sides of me fly into the air. "Let the storm rage on," a gust of wind blew at me lifting up the cloak I wear. Then I realize I don't need it anymore. "The cold never bothered me anyway." And I took the cloak off letting it fly away with the wind.
I pick up the pace as I walk up the mountain. Then I laugh a little, "It's funny how some distance," I sing, "makes everything seem small. And the fears that once controlled me can't get to me at all!"
I run up the mountain and find myself in front of an abyss. "It's time to see what I can do. To test the limits and break through." In my mind I picture a magnificent staircase then I throw my powers at the abyss. What comes out of it is more like the start of and ice sculpture than a grand staircase. But I decide to work with what I've got.
"No right, no wrong," I sing as I put my foot on a step. The ice around my foot becomes perfect. "No rules for me! I'm free!"
Then I run up the stairs and put my hands in front of me making my grand staircase. "Let it go, let it go! I'm one with the wind and sky! Let it go, let it go!" At the top of the staircase I finish with a wave of my hands. I yell to the sky, "You'll never see me cry!"
I run into a clearing that I feel will be perfect for my purpose here. I stomp my foot on the ground and watch as a magnificent snowflake appears at my feet. "Here I stand and here I'll stay! Let the storm rage on."
Using my hands I pull up shards of ice in the forms of pillars at the tips of the snowflake. The ground begins to raise under my feet until I'm standing on a raised platform of ice. I wave my hands and watch as the holes fill themselves in.
"My power flurries through the air into the ground." I make the snowflake in the floor stand out more then pull my powers attention to the ceiling. "My soul is spiraling in frozen fractals all around."
The palace is finished. I look into a wall of glass reflecting myself back at me. My hair is now mostly blonde. It seems as though the more I use my powers the more color my hair loses. It's time to start over. "Then one thought crystallizes like an icy blast."
I pull the crown off my head. "I'm never going back." I throw the crown behind me. "The past is in the past!"
I look at my dress then think about what I can do with it. I pull the ice up around my skirt and it begins turning blue. "Let it go, let it go! And I'll rise like the break of dawn."
I walk away from my reflection and over to the balcony. "Let it go, let it go! That perfect girl is gone!"
The sun is just beginning to rise as I reach the balcony. "Here I stand in the light of day!"
