Chapter 16
Life's Too Short
(Anna's PoV)The inside of the palace is just as magnificent as the outside. The main entrance is gigantic. In the center of the room are two huge ice fountains that appear to be shooting water. In the back are two more ice stairs that lead to a balcony. Behind that is more stairs.
Elsa has to be up there. I make my way across the room and up the stairs. Once I'm on the balcony I turn and look out across the room. "Anna?" I hear from behind me. I jump and spin around to find Elsa. But this is not the Elsa I knew.
This Elsa has a long blonde hair in a braid. She wears a beautiful blue dress that I assume she made out of ice as well. "Woah," I gasp, "Elsa what happened to you?"
"Before I used my powers my hair was brown, but after using them my hair started to turn this white blonde. Do you like it?" she asks so innocently. I nod. "It's amazing. Everything. Your hair, your dress, this place," I say as I look around the room.
"Thank you," she says quietly. I turn back to her and see that under her smile is sadness. "Are you alright, Elsa?" I ask.
"Yes, I'm fine," she replies but I can tell she isn't. Then from behind me I hear Olaf counting, "59... 60!" Then the doors open and he rushes in. "Wait, what is that?" Elsa mumbles behind me. Then Olaf yells, "Hi! I'm Olaf and I like warm hugs!"
"Olaf?" Elsa says. "Yeah," Olaf looks at his hands, bashful, "You built me. Remember that?"
"And you're alive?" Elsa asks.
Then Olaf stretches out his arms and looks at them. "Ummm... I think so." I kneel beside him and say to Elsa, "He's just like the ones we used to build as kids," I look at her timidly, "we were so close we can be like that again."
A strange look crosses Elsa's face. "No we can't," she says before turning to walk back up the stairs. "Goodbye Anna," she says.
"Elsa wait-" I begin before she interrupts. "Please, Anna, just leave." But I don't. I quickly follow her up the steps, leaving Olaf behind. I follow Elsa until she enters another room at the top of the stairs.
I try to think of something to say to her. Anything. Then I remember something from our childhood. Elsa always loved to sing. She would sing everywhere about anything. So I sing.
(Elsa's PoV)
I can't believe Anna's here. She can't be here. This is just like mom. She'll just disappear if I strike her. I get ready to throw ice at her but she starts singing. "I came all this way today to give us a fresh start but now that you're like 'wow!' it's all like warm in my heart."I decide to follow along. Only Anna would know how much I love to sing. So I turn to her and sing, "I'm so glad you like it sis 'cause this is the real me. You have no idea how great it feels to be free!"
"We've been falling out for way too long. So let's forget who's right-"
"And forget who's wrong," then at the same time we say, "Okay!" Maybe Anna won't be so bad after all, "Why don't you stay. There's room for family in my court."
Then at the same time we sing, "'Cause life's too short!"
"To always feel shut out and unloved by the sister I long to know." Anna sings. I'm sorry Anna, I think.
"Life's too short!"
"To never let you celebrate me, the true queen of the ice and snow!" At the same time we sing, "I never understood, but now I do! Life's too short to miss out on a sister like you!"
Anna walks up closer to me and says, "so you'll come back then?" That confuses me. "Back?"
Anna's face falls a little. "To thaw the fjord, it's frozen over, no one can get in or out?" she says as a question. She's questioning me. I had almost forgotten about the curse I put on everyone. I froze everything. "Oh..."
"So..." she says. She really expects me to come back? She doesn't understand why I left. I laugh a little at how idiotic the offer is. "I can't believe you," I say in disgust.
"What?" she says so innocently. "I just assumed that you would-"
My emotions take over and I start singing again. "That I'd come right on back? That's how your story ends?"
"It does!" she says with a stupid smile. "It's just like it was except for we'll be best friends."
With even more disgust I spit my next words at her, "So that's been your plan, to force me back in a cage!"
"Woah, woah," she puts her hands up in defense, "don't get upset. Let's get back on the same page."
"Gee, thanks for coming up to see the place, and showing off your 'mastery' of tact and grace. Okay! Run down the hill, spill my secrets, make a full report! Bye bye!"
"Wait-"
"'Cause life's too short!"
Anger fills Anna's face. "There it is! The door you love to slam in my face. You did well there for a spell, but now we're back in the same place. Kick me out if you want, but I'm the only one who is not 100% convinced the Prophecy's you!"
The Prophecy! Was I the only one that didn't know about it?! I think of the perfect comeback, "you can think whatever you want 'cause I don't care! You're a fool who married a stranger-"
"That is so unfair!"
At the same time we yell, "I swear I'm through with taking your I shaking sisterly support! 'Cause life's too short!" I spin around away from Anna. I can't even look at her anymore!
"To treat the people down there," she sings, "just as coldly as you always treated me!"
I cover my ears with my hands and try to block her out. I don't need to hear this. She's just trying to make me feel bad.
"Life's too short!" We both yell.
"To listen to a reckless fool," I spit out with as much anger as I can, "who only ever sees the things she wants to see!"
"You don't know!"
"You have no idea!"
At the same time we yell to each other, "what I've been through because of you! Life's too short to waste another minute! Life's too short to even have you in it! Life's too short!"
"I've been so wrong about you!" Anna gasps.
"You! You've been so wrong about everything!" I clench my fist I can feel the ice filling me up.
"Maybe you are the Prophecy."
"I am NOT THE PROPHECY!" I scream at her. Then I let my ice fly right through her heart. But it isn't solid like with my mother. Instead it flies straight through her but I seems to do the damage intended. Only she doesn't disappear.
(Anna's PoV)
I collapse on the floor when the ice passes through me. It was nothing more than a gust of wind but the pain that came along with it felt like I was stabbed. I put my hand where it hit me, right over my heart. It feels just fine. But the pain is still there. I look up at Elsa. I was right. This is not the Elsa I knew.
