Chapter 8 – Bring it on
Never go off by yourself.
Never go off by yourself.
Never go off by-
“Dawn!”
I opened my eyes slowly to be greeted by a face above me and pure light, stinging my eyes as I closed it back again. After adjusting my eyes to the light, the image was clearer as I saw a pair of green eyes staring back at me worriedly.
“Wha-?” I began sitting up immediately and it turned out to be a bad idea, because the hurt was suddenly unbearable, coming from my back way down to my toes. I bit my lip as I furrowed my eyebrows.
“Stop moving.” A stern voice ordered.
I looked up and finally realize that the pair of green eyes belongs to Ash. “Where am I?” I asked, my voice husky as I looked around the room I was currently in. The room was simple, the four walls were all painted plain white, and taking in the whole place, I knew right away that this was the hospital.
He gave me a glass of water, and I gulped it down in one go. I was really thirsty and my throat was dry.
My brain was filled with thoughts as I threw a bunch of questions at him, and being the helpful guy he is, note the sarcasm, he was just looking at me, not answering any questions I asked at all. Instead, he told me to lay down and relax, to not stress out… but how could I not?
I obeyed and lay down, but I didn’t relax at all, instead, I recalled back the memories myself. I looked at my bandage at my right hand and the thick white bandage on my left leg. After that, I touched my forehead and winced again, I could feel a plaster on my forehead, and my back hurt like crazy.
I wanted to take a closer look at my bandage at the left leg by sitting up, but Ash suddenly grip tight both of my shoulder, sending small sparks moving around my body, and he focused his eyes on me again and he said, “Stop touching your wounds or moving, it’s already worse as it is. You’re hurt badly, Dawn.”
After I sighed and settled down, he let go of my shoulder and settled down on the seat beside me as well.
After several minutes of silence and thinking, all of it came rushing through my mind as I finally recalled back everything. The last thing I remembered was saving the girl as I watched her turn into a street, out of sight. Then, what happened?
“Ash-?” I asked, titling my head to the side to watch him, a pleading look in my eyes, hoping he would tell me what had happened from there.
“I walked back to the place where you were supposed to wait for me, but you weren’t there. Obviously, I thought you left me, and I wasn’t really surprised that you did, judging by the way you…-” I stared at him, waiting for him to continue. Judging by the way I what?
He skipped that sentence and began again, “But anyway, so I walked back to the same pathway we took these past few days, hoping I wouldn't get lost, and half way walking back home, I saw someone who was badly injured, and hey, what do you know? It was you.”
“Was anybody there except me?” I asked, hoping he didn’t see me with the girl, or even worse, the dead vampire. He thought about it for a moment and shook his head. I just nod, but inside, I was in a huge relief.
He then continued, “I was talking to you, asking about what had happened, but you have already passed out, luckily I had both of my hands around you or else you would have fell. Anyway, I brought you to the hospital. Like I said, you were seriously hurt. Dawn, what happened to you? Do you remember?”
